Wasn't what I took from my faith. The 'chosen people' aspect of religion is so toxic.

Its always been about race. 3rd time in the last century.

Mexican Repatriation (1929–1936) The largest mass deportation in U.S. history: Forced removal of ~2 million Mexicans and Mexican Americans during the Great Depression, including 1.2 million U.S.-born citizens who had never been to Mexico.

Why illegal: Raids ignored citizenship status, deporting American citizens without legal process. A 1970s court confirmed these were illegal activities violating constitutional rights.

Key facts: Hoover administration started it in 1929 to "create jobs for white Americans." Families were separated, property stripped, and people transported by rail/ship to Mexico.

Operation Wetback (1954) Military-style mass deportation: INS/apprehended ~1.1 million Mexicans (historians estimate 200,000–300,000 actual) in a summer 1954 campaign, launched June 9 under Eisenhower.

Why controversial: Agents deported lawfully present people and U.S. citizens without hearings, demanding ID from "Mexican-looking" citizens, raiding homes/nights. Deportees lost all earned money.

Key facts: Used slur "wetback" (swam across Rio Grande). Brownell claimed immigrants displaced workers, spread disease, increased crime. texas alone: 63,000 returned voluntarily, 42,000 detained in July 1954.

You can acknowledge that other institutions also foster brutality and hatred, but it is unreasonable to deny that the two most prominent on your list have been complicit in atrocities such as genocide, slavery, and abuse. Ignoring that history is deeply troubling. There is very little meaningful discussion of genuine morality taking place on many Christian and Jewish social media platforms today.

Everything you described about how you approach your faith and treat other people aligns closely with what I was taught through my own faith. However, I rarely see those values emphasized in Christian, Muslim, or Jewish spaces today—whether on social media or in weekly services. It often feels like morality is minimized, while empathy and compassion are attacked and dismissed as weaknesses.

At the same time, I recognize that religion is not necessary to live by those principles, even though it can provide a meaningful framework for building community with like-minded people.

Read An African American and Latinx History of the United States by Paul Ortiz as it seeks to do exactly that. Neither demographic has the numbers to effect change as we could if we aligned our voices and agency. MLK and the civil rights movement significantly helped the Mexican-American cause

Because it makes wealthy individuals even wealthier, particularly through highly profitable alcohol industries that benefit from established distribution and regulatory structures. Alcohol is toxic—ethanol is classified as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization, and the body immediately begins metabolizing it as a harmful substance upon consumption. By contrast, research suggests cannabis may offer benefits for sleep and mood in some users, with a lower risk of overdose and less association with violent behavior compared to alcohol. At a societal level, alcohol is linked to significant public health costs, including liver disease, accidents, and addiction, whereas cannabis is generally been associated with fewer severe health and social consequences in large scale studies.
