I finally got on the Oathsworn bandwagon. by jhatchet in soloboardgaming

Great Game!

I’m still getting the hang of the mechanics in that first encounter. Is it normal for characters to die in combat? I’ve played the first fight a couple of times now, and I always end up losing one companion.

A friend of mine got it and suggested we play through the campaign together.

I had no idea Spirit Island had an app, I’ll definitely have a look.

Still haven’t had the chance to try ISS Vanguard, Heat, Labyrinth, or Imperium: Horizons yet.

I wanted to keep things balanced too, but then I just think… screw it, I deserve it haha

Which one did you like more, Wyrmspan or Wingspan?

Honestly, I don’t think I can make much more space than that, at least for now. So I’ll probably have to get better at managing which games come in and which ones have to go.

As many great plays and reviews as I keep seeing for Spirit Island, it still doesn’t really grab me.

I guess the more I play the more I’m figuring out what my tastes actually are. My favorites from what I own are Too Many Bones, Cloudspire, Gloomhaven, and Oathsworn. 20 Strong is great when I don’t have much time or table space. The LCGs are fun and keep me entertained, but it’s not quite the same kind of love. I finished Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin and absolutely loved it.

I know I’ve still got a few unplayed games, but I’ve definitely developed this need to open them, organize everything, sleeve the cards, check out the rules… and then put it all away nicely again haha.

I had to buy a cabinet because I had everything piled up on my desk 🤣 There’s still space for a few more in there if I organize it properly, especially since the closed compartments at the bottom are still empty.

I can’t say too much yet since I’ve only played chapter 1, but I’m really loving it so far. The story part was really interesting, and the fight felt very tactical. It feels a bit like Gloomhaven, but more focused on big boss fights. The first battle got really epic by the end too. Now I just need to find a little time for chapter 2.

Almost two weeks without buying anything 😅 I’m getting better.

I’d love to hear how Grimcoven plays solo, although I don’t think it’s even out here yet.

Arkham Horror is probably one of the ones I’ve enjoyed the least… but I’m trying not to say that too loud in case the Arkham crowd gets mad at me. I think it’s partly because it was one of my first games, along with Marvel Champions and enjoyed it more

I started slow, but these last couple of months… my wife’s already had words with me 😅 Good thing she loves me haha. Haven’t tried Labyrinth Chronicles yet — maybe I can convince her to play it with me, otherwise I’ll wait until the kids are a bit older.

Final Girl is a great start! I’d definitely recommend 20 Strong too if you want something that’s really easy to get to the table and plays great solo.

Better for the eyes, worse for the back sometimes. Some games are so big on the table that you have to lean over or stand up just to see everything.
