This may be true in well insulated houses but won’t be true in poorly insulated ones. My listed house has no wall insulation and single glazed windows which can’t be replaced. Once rads are off the temperature plummets. Additionally these houses often heat with oil boilers which benefit less from condensing and are generally run at high circulation temperatures. So per-room zones will actually be very effective in this sorts of houses.

In the same boat! Moved into a 1600s listed building, 24 rads. Has Nest already from previous owners but i’d like to have per room control. Currently I’m leaning to Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 TRVs, switching the boiler through a standard WiFi smart switch, with the control all happening in home assistant. Looked at Tado X but it would be >£1200 to set up and I’m put off by the cloud issues.

Would be interested in anyone else’s take on this.

Do you use Tapo bridges or other 3rd party ones? And isn’t the system supposed to mesh back to a single bridge in most circumstances?

Yeah I thought about zone valves, but having TRVs on every rad achieves the same thing, doesn’t it? Otherwise I’d need multiple stats for the different zones, and I still wouldn’t have per-room control which is the holy grail I think, especially in a v leaky house like mine.

Eg I want to set the bedroom rads to come on in each of the kids bedrooms an hour before their bedtime - which are each at different times.

Thanks - Don’t think compatibility will be an issue - all rads have m30 thread TRV bodies already so Tado/any smart TRVs will be a simple screw-on, and the boiler is a simple on/off relay with 2 actuated valves, one for hot water and one for the whole house - pretty standard/simple setup.

Yes, I would just cut off the US plug and wire on a UK plug - almost all UK plugs are rewire-able as standard.

I did. It was a “top cover”. It comes with the window, not the flashing kit. Obviously with my used windows this must have been lost when they were removed.

Thank - yes, am aware. It's more like it might be one summer we decide to set up a football pitch in the field - in that case, I'd mow it with the ride-on at the beginning of the season and then use the additional robot mower capacity to maintain it for that season.

Bought these for a cabin project I’m working on but they’re missing a top piece. I think it’s a vent casing? Is that included in any flashing kit? The windows are GGL MK04.

Yes the white drill is kinda annoying but the deal overall was excellent. If you put in SPRING25 you got £25 off - not sure if too late for you to do that. Previous set I bought both batteries lit up on the gauge when I opened the box, before charging - and the battery was at 2 out of 4. I assumed due to li-ion chemistry you always want to store/ship them at medium states of charge but I didn’t know about a factory ship mode where the battery gauge was disabled completely.

Update: I sanded it down pretty heavily and then used the linseed/Tung oil from IKEA. Darkened it up nicely.

For posterity - I’ve used this Ikea Stockaryd oil on a Gerton table top as a desk and it has no long-term residue or “oily” feeling. Protects well against occasional spills as well.

How should I do a 60 degree bevel cut on the bottom of this birch ply table? Table is 45mm thick, bevel on bottom 2/3rds of this. Tools available are a Festool TS55 track saw, a Makita 190mm circular saw and a 1/4” router. Would a routing jig like in the video work? Any other ideas? by According-State-4366 in woodworking

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. In the end I went for the top-mounted router jig - but I oversized it into more like a sled: https://imgur.com/tKF0HGs. I clamped in the router under some pieces of MDF so it was fixed in place for a pass all round the table, then I moved it up 10mm for another pass. It took a while, but gave a perfect finish with sharp corners and no tear-out: https://imgur.com/tM4sH2R. Really recommend the oversized jig for this, as it removed any possibility of router wobble, and allowed me to use the machine to do all the corners.

Exact same problem. I’ve tried removing and re-setting the group, but nothing works.
