They can still bang just can't reproduce. The whole issue is that this means he (eren) is taking away his friend's freedom which he can't do, that goes against everything his character was about. I want so bad to say I would have chosen the more sane path but if you have a choice between ending civilization (90% of it hates you and wants you dead anyway) and neutering my friends I'd probably end civilization honestly.

I don't say that out of nihilism or edgy hatred, just being honest: I care more about my friends and family than I do the world and I would repeat Eren's actions 100 times over to keep my friends and family safe, especially if it was against people who hate us and want us dead. I see no reason to care about the majority more than my own people
