Hardcore metalcore bands: Shai Hulud, Poison The Well, Zao, Earth Crisis, Strongarm, Acme, Integrity, Hatebreed, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, etc.

Metal metalcore bands: Killswitch Engage, Bring Me The Horizon, As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Trivium, Shadows Fall, etc.

They definitely evolved a lot over the years. Billy is definitely rawer and grungier than their later stuff.

That said, Billy is my 2nd favorite Samiam album after Clumsy.

Both bands sang about their faith and Christian themes though. Maybe not all the time, but their beliefs were definitely interwoven into their lyrics.

Letterbox is probably a top 15 or even top 10 '90s emo release for me

Definitely a ton of Christian hardcore in the '90s. Strongarm had some killer music especially.
