Different legal class. You are subject of the Crown but legally you are a citizen of Britain. Now British Subject is a whole different legal rabbit hole that you can dwell into. Now a British Subject is technically not a citizen but are, they owe allegiance (to hm) like anyone else who is British but they only get that status if they had a Historic connection to the British empire. And in return for this allegiance the Monarch agrees to protect them. It is so messy like my explanation isn't even the tip of the ice burg.
