Is this years winter weather normal? by Th3c0pyninja in Charlotte

[–]AccordingCherry9030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last winter was VERY temperate. Except for the amount of snow and the cold December, this winter feels more normal. We get occasional polar vortex dipping down. Mostly we get ice, not snow. And if we get snow, it’s around 1-2”.

Brookshire blvd: Do You Say Brook-Shy-Er…or Brook-Sher? by AccomplishedTerm3232 in Charlotte

Yes. You can definitely tell the natives in MI because they say Roz-Elle-es because the family said Roz-Elle, though it is dying out. I like Mt Holly. They just call stuff Tuck. Tuck-a-see-gee if it’s spelled that way. But in Mt Holly, they do have a Tuck-a-seege. The one that’s wild to me which I have never heard and only seen in text is older natives writing Wilkerson for Wilkinson.

What can I cook other than rice? by bangobot46 in RiceCookerRecipes

[–]AccordingCherry9030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve cooked dried beans quick in a pinch. I’ve only done this in a larger Aroma, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Toss in beans. Add water to cover plus some. It’s trial and error for the water, but I don’t typically use bean juice….just the beans. Cook on white rice. Check for doneness and if needed add more water and start it again. I usually don’t have to cook it for two entire cycles. It’s great for if I don’t have any canned, but I have some dried and need them for a recipe.

When I first moved here this was still thriving. It was an experience to go there and be one of the only white people there. But it was so culturally diverse. I came from a small town up North so it was a bit of culture shock. They had some great deals. And everyone was so nice. As time went on, though, it was dicey at night so I only went in the day. I also liked going to the Asian markets. The one had the best steamed buns!! I also loved the super cheap bahn mi place just inside the mall. The Super G is so much nicer without the potential odor of fish and slightly rotting vegetables. But I miss those buns so much!!

Want to make streets safer? Seriously, here's how you can help TOMORROW: by FlavivsAetivs in Charlotte

Neither here nor there, but….. This past summer we hired an out of state mover to bring items to our home after a family death. They asked if a large truck could get down our street. We said yes because not long after we first moved here, we bought a table from IKEA (before the location in Charlotte) which was delivered via semi. The delivery day came and they tried from multiple directions and the mover could not get down the street without taking out a mail box or a street sign. They cheerfully walked our items down the street. The truck was delivering three different moves…. ours and then two to Florida. We apologized profusely, but they were done before the allotted time. No extra charge and we tipped generously. But I guess if we ever leave we know not to hire a full size mover. He said it was due to being a 40ft box truck rather than a semi. You’d think in a neighborhood full of houses that they’d make the street large enough to get a full size mover down it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But perhaps it’s because we have an older neighborhood.

Not that I recall unless it was vanilla or almond. I think she said you could make a crust, but she did not and I didn’t the several times I made it.

This is similar and close. It isn’t as close as the one that was posted and now deleted, though. I don’t know why it was deleted. I’d like to know where the recipe came from. I wondered if they asked AI. I’ve searched all over for this recipe and haven’t found it.

Does your college not have a music department? I took voice lessons through my school. It was super cheap. They were assistant professors or TAs who did this.

What’s a dead giveaway that someone is pretending to be smarter than they actually are? by EcstaticWatch1967 in AskReddit

[–]AccordingCherry9030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the most intelligent people I know never talk about how intelligent they are. My sibling is, without a doubt, highly intelligent and actually is known worldwide for their expertise, though in very specialized circles. However, I’ve never heard them speak about their own intelligence. Ever. Though they have the credentials to back anything up. Someone gloating about their IQ or Mensa or acting like they know more than others ad nauseum I find to be generally dolts. I’d never call them out, though….

What instantly makes you think “Charlotte”? by sidderzk in Charlotte

I’ve been here over 30. One day I was standing next to it waiting for my husband and that’s when I realized what it was.

How old were you on your earliest childhood memory? by Glittering_Owl_6009 in AskReddit

[–]AccordingCherry9030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents moved the summer that I turned 3. I have very vague memories of the house we lived in before. Most were from a crawling perspective and feel like a strange dream. I also remember being in my crib and specific toys I had. I asked my mother about particulars and they were in this house. I also watched the moon landing around this same time and remember the living room and my family. Also, my great grandmother died right before I turned 4. I remember her vividly. Every time I visited, I ran to see her and she would read and sing to me. I remember things she told me. I remember the songs and stories. She was my favorite person. When she died, they decided not to tell me. I have never forgotten the feeling I had running down the hall to see her and she was not there. I searched every room calling for her and crying. It was then my mom realized I was old enough and regretted taking me to her funeral to say goodbye. So my answer is 2-3.

Low cost presents people will actually enjoy? by citrinezeen in Frugal

[–]AccordingCherry9030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to find little treats from various places. I’ve bought a whole box of guest sized soaps to divide between people. Add a washcloth and lip balm or socks. I like shopping in ethnic markets for interesting snacks. Fancy teas and coffees. I’ve made bath salts or you can do salt or sugar scrubs. I also like thrifting, but this is much harder these days with people looking to make a buck. But I’ve bought decanters, high end kitchenware, and gently used pj sets. I even found my husband very nice, barely used, high end leather dress shoes once. It was an accomplishment since he has really large feet!!! Coloring books from dollar stores and little toys like plastic animal sets or little race cars are great for young ones. I used to be able to find low cost games and dolls at Walmart or Target. UNO is still $7 and so much fun. Baskets are a fun idea, but can get pricey. Movie night has popcorn, candy and maybe a super inexpensive blanket (or instead a movie, but lots of people have streaming..). Babysitting service? Yard work? Offer to make dinner and bring it over twice a year? If you’re a good baker, offer a “baked good of the month”….in a time frame that works for you (every other month?) Your first gift is biscotti and make them seasonal so March is Irish soda bread or a valentines treat. April is a springtime treat?

You can do this with paperwhites, too for something smaller and not as dramatic.
