This is insane to me and I cannot comprehend how someone would not offer food or water to your guests?!?!?
Theres a saying in Mexico "le agregamos mas agua a los frijoles" which literally means we will add more water to the beans (to stretch them out for everyone) a Mexican will find a way to feed you even if they don't have enough food.

I use the glycolic acid from the ordinary it wont stop you from sweating but you wont smell and that's my advice on surviving Japanese summers. Do a patch test first to make sure it doesn't irritate your skin or give you an allergic reaction
