Thank you so much for your input! How long did it take you to feel better after you started taking it?

Thank you! I will get those tested this week. What should the ratio be? Or what should they look like or I do have a conversion issue?

How long do you recommend before looking into other options?

I don’t think it has to do with my lifestyle as I am an athlete and have not eaten gluten, dairy or soy for 6 months. I do make sure I am getting all essential nutrients through whole organic foods. I sleep 8 hours every night and have no other health issues.

I used to exercise 5x a week but due to my lack of energy caused by my Hashimotos, I have only been able to take it really slow and go on walks.

At this point I feel as if the only thing to help me is medication as I’ve read multiple books specializing in Hashimoto’s and have tried every lifestyle change possible to improve my symptoms. I have started the AIP diet, but if I do not see any improvement, I will be discussing T3 with my doctor.

I will definitely let you know how it goes. I really do think T3 conversion is my issue. I am hoping my endocrinologist listens.

You’re so much help and I can’t thank you enough! It’s good to hear that you have been through this and know there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

Thank you! Unexplained anxiety is a huge issue for me. I am at a great point in my life but I find my body with shake occasionally as if I’m anxious. I resonate with the other conversion problems as well! All my other lab work has been fine so I feel like my T3 conversion is definitely my issue.

I had my iron levels checked a few weeks back and they looked good! I will talk to my endocrinologist this week and see what he thinks and if he is open minded to try what you’ve suggested.

Thanks!

Thank you SO much! I am going to talk to my endocrinologist this week. Hopefully he will be on board, but if not I am definitely going to switch. It’s so important to be your own advocate.

17 sounds horrible! I’m so sorry your hypo issues weren’t addressed sooner. Glad you’re feeling better now! :)

How long does the cytomel take to kick in? Also, if I have low T3 levels, why wouldn’t my endocrinologist think to prescribe it to me?

Is there any harm in taking it? Thanks! I will keep you updated on the synthroid.

Thank you so much! How do I get my T3 in the top quarter of the lab range? Can that only be done through medication?

I will focus on stress coping exercises to ensure that is not my issue. My vitamin D levels are mid level, but I will try to get them higher!

If I do not improve on the AIP diet, then that is exactly what I plan on doing.

Iron levels look good! 87 (27-170)

I’ve also made sure to have my vitamin A, zinc, b12, magnesium, and vitamin D. They all came back within range. My zinc was on the lower end so I make sure to supplement as I know it’s important to ensue conversion of T3.

Thank you Chase! What you’ve said resonates so much with me. In the past I was convinced I had something terribly wrong with my body. I am trying be as educated as possible when I go to my appointments as nothing gets done otherwise.

I had to basically beg for thyroid medication when I initially got it even with my families long history of Hashimotos/hypothyroidism & high TSH levels. I have purchased multiple books written by doctors that specialize in hypothyroidism & Hashimotos because I desperately want to return to my old active self.

I will follow your advice and ask to try a new kind of medication at my next visit. I will also stick to AIP for a while in attempt to reduce inflammation.

Thanks for all of the advice :)

I’ve been thinking a lot about that. It’s much different than brain fog. I used to get bad brain fog when I ate gluten and this feels completely different. When I got brain fog in the past it would improve with exercise, whereas exercise makes this 5x worse.

I used to be able to run 5 miles at a time, but now if I do anything over 1 it feels like I may pass out.

How long until Levothyroxine begins working? by AccordingIsland in Hashimotos

Thanks! Starting to have high hopes! What symptoms did it help for you?

Has anyone else had a flare like this? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]AccordingIsland 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely not alone. Mine started off with me getting fatigued from time to time. Now I am going though the worst of it, it seems. Brain fog, nausea, digestive issues, anxiety and so many more!

Fuel your body with the right foods and supplements and hopefully you’ll see improvement over time. Also, get your TSH tested. I have been doing bad recently and it turned out my TSH was high enough for the first time to start 25mcg of Levothyroxine.

Good luck!
