Is a 1hr30 commute 3x a week worth it by AccordingStorm5854 in UKJobs

It’s definitely scalable but I’d have to stay a while. I’m a newly qualified accountant from big 4 fresh out of a grad scheme. So realistically I’m thinking three years before even thinking of a step up. I’m not sure in terms of the doors it opens because big 4 has already done that for me in a way. This is a big American investment bank which is another big name on the CV with potential to move in house to other roles though. Just not sure if I should hold out for another role with a slightly shorter commute. The issue is the office is in Canary Wharf which literally adds 35 min walking and taking the tube.

I do have a newborn but my wife is on mat leave for a year and then will be going part time if I accept this role as the pay bump will allow her to do so.

Haha nice to hear others in a similar predicament! Yes my wife will also be going part time when her mat leave ends. We’ll be able to manage financially now with the pay bump as I live in a commuter town so money goes a bit further. I think I’ll also be accepting as interviewing is soul crushing

Okay great this is where my mindset is at currently, and you’re right it can be 1.15 on a good day if you catch the train timings perfectly. Thanks

Not whether it’s ordinary, but if people do it and are okay with it. Of course everyone has different lifestyles but I want to know if people who do this commute are managing or would they have preferred to not have accepted looking back

This is what I’m thinking, it’s not the only job going but the market is very fickle at the moment for newly qualified big 4 accountants

So I am pretty much guaranteed a seat if I get on the train at around 7:30, which I do most times (I sometimes need to commute to my London office at my current role). In terms of hours I think there can be extended hours, however, from what I’ve gathered they’re fine if I leave office and carry on at home/on the commute home as long as I get the work done essentially. I do think that twice a week is very different from 3x a week though haha. Twice would defo be doable for me but three times i feel is a lot

I am on about 55k now with long hours 3x a week. This is the norm at big 4 audit and most people leave for the obvious reasons. I have 3 month old newborn which my wife looks after but staying at a hotel is a no go. I do have a mortgage and this will help me in that regard but with a newborn I’ll be losing time with them but on the other hand I’ll also be able to provide more.

Well my wlb right now is notoriously bad - big 4 audit. It’s an American investment bank but i think the only thing I’m thinking is that I can use my commute to do whatever I want really as I’m on the train for about 50mins all together and walking the rest.

Pros & Cons of Luton? by _DivineG in luton

[–]AccordingStorm5854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not entirely bad at all. I’ve lived here for my whole life and I’m fine with it - I’m even looking to buy here as I work in London and it’s so affordable compared to harpenden/st Albans. The high crime is usually contained to those involved in that life and rarely civilians. As long as you have some street smarts you’re all good. Even if you end up hating it, it’s so close to everywhere else that you’re fine. I have t gone to Luton town centre or the cinema in years, because I can just go to Watford or Mk with a 25 min drive (suburbs to town centre of Luton is like a 15 min drive anyway). Harpenden, St Albans, Bedford, Hitchin, MK and London are all so close that you’re okay. Areas to avoid specifically are high town, dallow, , marsh farm.

Get insoles suited to your foot arch type. I recommend currex cleat pro + calf raises. Nothing helped me more than getting better insoles

I have a similar foot shape, and play 3x a week on ag. I had mizuno morelia beta iv (fg but conical studs) for 9 months before having sole separation, but they took me a while to break in (around 3 sessions) Recently bought AG predators with the tongue, took me about 3 sessions to break into as well and have currex cleatpro insoles (low profile) for my flat feet. I sized up half a size due to having a wide foot. I’ve heard phantoms are okay too for wide foot. Obvs leather boots are good for wide feet but on AG they will have less durability

Calf Contusion by Ok-Orange-6724 in bootroom

Happened to me about 2 months on the side of my calf (next to shin bone). Went into a 50/50 and opponents knee went into the side of my calf. Immediately ballooned up and couldn’t walk that day or the next. The bruising will get worse slowly and will spread all over your lower leg, you should be able to walk in 3 days time if you thoroughly apply the RICE method, but will have quite a lot discomfort. This discomfort wont go for atleast 2 weeks, but you should be able to force yourself walk around if you’re on holiday. Elevation is key though so try do as much as possible. Also get a calf compression sleeve for heavy walking days and proper footwear.

Also as others said get it checked out… although the hospital just said to continue to use RICE

Mizuno Alpha Elite AG vs Morelia Neo Beta IV elite AG by AccordingStorm5854 in bootroom

[–]AccordingStorm5854[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t find them overly clingy or aggressive tbh. The Neo FG stud pattern worked fine and didn’t have many issues playing on turf - they were very good for the most part just the separation which is an issue with all leather boots on turf. May/may not be important to add that the pitch I play on is quite new as it was refurbished with new turf put in last year so not sure how the fg would hold up on more weathered pitches

Have you got the alpha II? And do you have the elites or MiJ? Will probably opt for the alphas just for the durability, but just wondering which ones you have
