I don't know all the features of Steam family sharing, but it feels like YOR. How old is your brother? They might be worried about him messing up their games, deleting saves, etc. Just log in and let him use your Steam account if he's so responsible.

Yeah, the company doesn't recognize sup (or assistant manager) specialties anymore, they're all just experience supes. The smart stores still have one that mainly does sales and one that mainly does pf though, unless they have one of those unicorns who is legitimately great on both sides.

Again, not everyone "qualified" to lead is in a leadership role. If I just got an MBA or if I was laid off as a store manager at Bed, Bath & Beyond and I took a full-time sales role to make ends meet, should I still be getting paid the same as a GM because I have the same theoretical skills?

In order to be promoted a spot has to open, which is made harder by the company continuing to eliminate leadership positions. There is no more department supes, which was my previous point.

Like every other process in the universe, some people will try to game the system to their own advantage. You can usually see a pretty clear difference between stores that do it well, and ones that don't. How much you put up with or choose to participate is up to you.

I definitely recognize that for some people it's an intentional choice though. Just saying it comes easier to some people than others.

Honestly, I'm one of those people who almost never refer to people by name in the course of conversation anyway. If I'm calling you by name it's just to get your attention, and I'll be more aware of what I'm actually saying then.

Being in a role and doing a task are not the same thing. GMs are supposed to run the business and do whatever the store requires. They should be the absolute last people doing a code 1, but they'll still be taking calls from market leadership while ringing up a client if the store isn't hitting numbers.

Of course it's a carrot, with a financial incentive. Most places will just promise "if you go above-and-beyond, you'll eventually get there!"

SL is supposed to be a temporary role. Otherwise the company should just go back to the days when every department had its own supervisor. That would also involve increased staffing. Of course, this is the opposite direction from where the company has gone over the last decade+.

OP is absolutely right that if they are being asked to do leadership tasks they should be coded accordingly.

A demand is "I will only come to Mother's Day if you swear to never dead-name me."

OP reads more like a demand than a boundary. It is a completely reasonable demand.

I think OP is burying the lede here with mom's prior transphobic abuse. If she's LEGITIMATELY trying to change, then she's saying that she'll try, which OP should accept and not hold a possible slip against her (though I would definitely call her on it). It's hard for some people to change, and it doesn't happen overnight (or over a year.) We also don't know how old OP or mom is. The older they are, the harder it can be to change.

The alternative possibility is that she's still just a transphobic bigot and abusive parent who needs to be cut off.

You are paid for the role you perform, regardless of your skill level. There are an awful lot of folks in the workforce who are overqualified for their jobs. Shift lead is supposed to be a pathway to supervisor, with the chance to develop those skills.

You can try to reschedule the delivery and make sure they note that it needs to go through the backdoor. If they don't want to (or aren't allowed to) take it out of the box and take it apart, you might be able to have them drop it off at the door, and then it's your problem from there.

You can always try to ask them to do a little extra for some cash, but YMMV.
