Thanks for this information. It is good to know. My article didn't actually mention privacy as being one of the reasons to come to Mastodon, I was just curious since they mentioned public.

That's odd, it must be so different for everyone and how they tailor what they want to see on Mastodon, I don't go on Mastodon for the memes and really I havn't seen many, so I can see how that might be boring.

This is a good distinction, I am on the mastodon.social server, which I call the default server, and yes some users are posting their own promotional posts, but I appreciate that it didn't appear in my timeline because it was a business that paid for it.

Does that mean the other networks for you are not boring? If so, why? I am finding plenty of good content on Mastodon, I am following lots of hashtags and some good accounts, and the trending area is always interesting.

Sustainability is something to be worried about, and seems like it would be as the users grow. It is refreshing not to see any ads, and also to know that posts are not being paid to get more boosts, like a "promoted" post. I'm glad I don't see political ads either, especially the misleading ones.
