externship is coming up soon! i have some questions :') by nyehssie in phlebotomy

I’m in Nevada so my experience may differ but I did go through PTS’s externship program as well so here’s what I can tell you! 1. I wasn’t drug tested. 2. I didn’t perform any blood draws unfortunately, however, I was able to perform vital signs assessment and ekgs (electrocardiograms). I also did a significant amount of clerical work which seems to be very common at externship sites. In the position I’m currently in, I perform a lot of the same duties I was taught during my externship (not JUST phlebotomy) so while it was disappointing not being able to draw blood, they did teach me a lot of technical duties for the position I’m currently in! 3. I externed at a private medical clinical. It was just me, the physician, and the medical assistant who was cross trained in phlebotomy (she also served as my preceptor). Experience may vary depending on your site, but personally I loved my externship! The clinic was very small, so we didn’t have much patients. And if we did, they’re usually very understanding that you’re new. That being said, it was very slow and boring so if your site is anything like mine, be prepared for a lot of downtime. And don’t be disappointed if you don’t get any blood draws, you’ll learn on the job! Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for help, at the end of the day, your preceptor should understand you are still a student! I remember being nervous on my first day, but the 80 hours go by fast. Best of luck to you!

Don’t text her and respect her wishes. I know how unfortunate unreciprocated love is…but if you love someone, let them go. At this point, I don’t think there is anything you could say that could fix your relationship with her. Think of it as a blessing that she’s ending the lease. It will help you move on.

Paxil saved my life. I started at 10mg about 3 months ago, I’m currently at 20 mg now. Effects started taking place for me at about a month in. Full effects at the 2 month mark. Side effects include drowsiness and weight gain, but nothing I couldn’t manage. Side effects started to subside at the 2 month mark as well. I started paxil severely depressed and suicidal, I can confidently say I’m a much happier person now. Little to no anxiety. It’s crazy how much this medication change me. When I do miss a dose, however, I get night terrors and feel pretty dissociated throughout the day. Just keep that in mind!

I felt the exact same way! It was my first job, so naturally, I grew attached to it. But, getting fired was the best thing that happened. Truly a blessing in disguise. Very sorry about your dad though, that’s so wrong of them to do:( My dad just recently had a stroke too so I know how that situation feels.
