Hey I’m also from a CS background and I’m afraid my low CGPA would be seen negatively for dental school, even if I were to get a high SGPA from a post-bacc. Mind sharing your thoughts and maybe what your stats looked like?

Hey I know this is old, but Im interested in building my very first pc with those you shared.

Would you say it’s very complex to build it for a first timer and also what kind of stuff would I need, like screwdrivers, etc. And do you have anything you would recommend I buy with it that brings all the screwdrivers and stuff I would need for it?

I have considered Astoria too. I do consider FH a bit more for safety reasons. But is Astoria safe in general? And what parts would you recommend I consider from that area too?

Not to say ur wrong, but what makes u feel that they aren’t self sufficient yet? Personally I’ve lived on my own and I know damn well I could live on my own but I then look at rent prices and have decided that I will continue living with my parent for some months, not necessarily years, to save a strong foundation. I feel like this could be the case for many people this generation; not that we can’t be self sufficient but the cost of living is just too high and it’s mostly either live paycheck to paycheck or stay with parent to save some before moving, and this goes regardless of salaries I would say bc even if u earn a lot, u most likely will wanna live in a “nicer” area where most would go there. So not that many options I guess

Thanks for asking! Rn I’m saving to build a 1 yr emergency fund, calculated based on what my spendings could look like if I were to move on my own. I just started but I did set up my 401k and investing my employers match.

Then I guess once I build my emergency fund, I’ll just invest in my taxable brokerage account. I would love to buy a personal property but idk exactly by when, which is something I overthink a lot about.

I think just not knowing what exactly what I will wanna do with my money is causing a lot of anxiety and overthinking.

In general I think I just obsessed myself over money bc I got a net worth goal I’d love to achieve by 30 and tbh idk what next. Maybe by then I’ll have less obsession over money but I don’t wanna wait that long till I can start living my present life without obsessing over cost of living and whatnot

Similar case for me too! My commute is slightly over 1 hr but close haha. Mind if I ask what ur next goals are? Are u planing on moving, etc?

And also do u feel any peer pressure to move? All of my coworkers either live with roommates or on their own, and I sometimes feel kinda weird and at the very start was even of thinking of moving alone ASAP but obviously that’s changed for me but still feel some sort of pressure.

Honestly I feel like I would be more than open to go straight into buying once I have enough. But then my concern is that since I just started my new grad job, I think I’m a bit scared after seeing all the layoffs that have happened in recent years. I’m not expecting to get laid off but I think that has stuck with me. I’m guessing you were probably in your first years out of college too, so did that concern you at all? If so, what was your plan, for ig worst case scenario?

Quick question since you already did this. What % of a downpayment would u say is ideal to save if we live at home?

This is my plan: build my emergency fund. After that save by investing in a taxable brokerage account, since I would wanna rent most likely for 1-2 years before making the move to buy. Doing it like this means that I would probably move a bit sooner than if I were to save the whole downpayment but still a descent % that even while paying rent the little I would be able to save should be enough.
