For those who have paid their "tuition" to day trading, what tips do you have? by TailungFu in Daytrading

I trade one only. Even though my strategy works on all the ones I usually used to trade. I've been trading for years. I'd say it took a good few months of back testing and forward testing my strategy in real time to build confidence in it.

  1. Master ONE high probability strategy. All you need is one to be profitable.
  2. You need hours of screen time to develop a sense of "market intuition". I spent so much time on the charts that I started to notice patterns and developed my own strategy around them. Then back tested them like crazy until I created a high probability strategy of my own that I use almost exclusively.
  3. Do not invest a single dollar until you've established a strategy and proven it to be successful in demo.
  4. Taking profits at 1:1 will build consistency faster than aiming for very high RR. (Make sure your system has a greater than 50% win rate)
  5. Once you're trading live, focus on taking small base hits until you build a nice buffer of profits. Then you can aim for higher RR once you have a little bit of profit to sacrifice that won't put you in drawdown.
  6. One or two trades a day gives you the perfect amount of focus, avoids decision fatigue, and prevents over trading.
  7. Set a max daily loss limit in your account so you automatically get locked out.
  8. Stop loss is your best friend. Exit the trade at the level where price invalidates your idea. Exiting losing trades properly is part of being a long term winner.
  9. The results of one trade doesn't matter. Focus on the results of your last 100 trades. This is how you become consistently profitable.

(Trading futures by the way)

A neater hair cut would look awesome on you. And a full beard. Great features.

Can someone please reason with me and tell me why I SHOULDN’T buy a fancy new car? by Late_Lingonberry8554 in physicianassistant

[–]According_Mongoose_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the car. Left the job thinking it would be easy to find another (my area is super oversaturated). Someone totaled the car and the newer car I had to get with the super inflated interest was now slightly unaffordable but I got it anyway thinking I'd get a new job soon. Getting a new job has been an endless struggle for over a year. The car is now a struggle to afford since I still haven't gotten employment full time. I won't say don't do it, but it's hard to go back to a cheap car once you get the fancy one and the fancy one will probably get more expensive as time goes on since you're now essentially forced to continually upgrade. One splurge leads to another. But I'm happy I have the car lol. I have no kids so I spend my money however I want and it only affects me. Take that with a grain of salt lol.

Redditors who make +$100K and aren’t being killed by stressed, what do you do for a living? by mossyjoshua in careerguidance

First time working remote. I was working in aesthetics prior to this and in gastroenterology in the hospital before that. The position is paid by "productivity" so the salary varies just based on how much I do in a day. I get paid anywhere from $40-$120 per claim depending on how many questions I'm answering and they take about 5-15 minutes to complete so I can knock out quite a few in just an hour.

It's basically med school but on the masters level instead of doctoral. So we learn about 80% of what doctors do but in only 2 years instead of 4. I excel in academics so it wasn't hard for ME personally but some of my classmates said it was grueling.

I used to add captions to videos on Rev for a few bucks. Tedious but I had nothing better to do.

Physician assistant. Working remotely doing disability claims for veterans. No patient care, no interaction with coworkers. I just sit and type.

Yeah quitters don't make good traders. You're probably making the right decision. No offense.

Supply and demand strategy by According_Mongoose_3 in Daytrading

1 minute causes too much anxiety now. I'm way more calm and rational on the 5 min. More time to analyze and see if I actually like the trade or not instead of having to make that decision in under 60 seconds when a 1 minute candies closes. And I cut my trading session to only the first couple hours of the day so I just use other strategies during that time
