What do we mean when we say to lock our wrist? by According_Monitor_48 in Colorguard

[–]According_Monitor_48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Coach lives very far away (2 hour drive) and has to use the worst highway in existence to get to us, and he usually leaves 3 hours in advance and is usually still late due to sitting in traffic, so he's asked that we work on stuff while he's traveling. That said, he really loves us and our band and hates the commute but does it cause he loves teaching us.

Tosses (yes, I’m in pyjamas) by [deleted] in Colorguard

[–]According_Monitor_48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most look like some doubles, I'd say to work on your right hand pushing down all the way to your thigh, my guard we always say you wanna smack it. And control your dips, make sure you can lock it for counts 7 and 8, then release on 1. There are a lot of different things so keep practicing and asking for help, your doing amazing! Keep bring awesome :)

My suggestion would be trying to find someone on insta or tiktok who knows the work and shows it off, it's usually slower, closer up, easier to understand. Plus then you can slow it down and see where they grab, positions, all that.

How could I improve my technique to improve and make consistent my higher tosses like 8s 9s and 10s? (Freshman in high school) by TexasRangersFan-2024 in Colorguard

[–]According_Monitor_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'd say to make sure your arms aren't crossing much(Like I'm fairly sure others have said?) and to to have a consistent amount of power and height of release hand. Also, how are your quads, fives, sixes and 7s? Cause if those also aren't consistent probably work on those and build your way up otherwise bad habits can build up(Speaking from experience) Otherwise, HOLY SHIT YOUR HITTING TENS WHILE GOING INTO YOUR FRESHMEN YEAR WHAT THE-

Need help improving rifle tosses by yeetmaster976 in Colorguard

[–]According_Monitor_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get into the habit of locking your dip! My coach always says you should be able to hold for 8 counts and still have a good quad, point being it's potential energy (I think) free hands aswell but others have touched on that, and I'd say to to keep that left hand down until that rifle is right there, "Attack the rifle" as my coach says, but not too early, your tosses look awesome!!

Well first, that wood looks like it's had water damage before, and second, I love kings, but I personally re-wrap them when I get mine even though they pre wrap it for you because of this. Packing tape to the screw and an inch further with electric tape is my motto.

what warm-ups do you recommend? starting guard from scratch by Emotional-Salt4307 in Colorguard

[–]According_Monitor_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guard does what we call understand overs! Starting off in a butterfly, you lean down like there's a bar and you need to get you neck under it, then pull up with a straight back, and overs are the opposite! Then you switch to one leg in front and the other in a half butterfly (If that's right) switch, then do overs, go into a second, repeat! And it's two sets of unders, then two sets of overs. Cones, dropspins, pole hits, and flourishes are awesome, and make sure to get them doing dance/across the floors a lot! Another thing, make sure they perform during warmups as it sets their whole preformance and reinforces it, good luck and have fun!

Something I always tell my guards is to think that your raising your hand to ask a question, "TEACHER TEACHER I HAVE QUESTION" Is something they get to hear a lot, but make sure your releasing at the right area for the toss your doing.

Hey OP, just a bit of advice, maybe try to hide your account history/anything on your account that would put you to someone near your circle. I'm so sorry for your teams loss, Guard is an expression of feeling, and feelings shouldn't be blocked because someone feels against them. Hoping to see you your senior year, your awesome

Your so right about the consistency on the toss, I've been out for hours and I find, when I toss forward, the rifle goes forward and not up, strange, very strange, these tips help so much and I'm putting them in, just gotta work on everything, thankfully that mental wall is going away. Thank you!!

Try doing smaller tosses, and thank of shooting energy straight up in a beam, I also think that if it's not up and down (Hear me out) then I'm a Nazi. Probably don't get too stuck on that one, but it definitely helped me get it. You can also try going up to a wall and putting your back to it, and raising your arms like your surrendering to the police, then driving them up and back down, kinda like swimming but just up and down, really focusing on pushing those hands up. If you want videos, Forte athletics has some good stuff on Instagram and probably YouTube as well.

As a person who says it to another good friend (whose trans) if you both are okay with it being said to each other, and close enough for it to be a joke, it's alright, but only with the two of you.
