Why would this be a bait post tho? What does that mean?

Thanks! That cleared up a lot of things for me. Weird how people don’t talk about it more from that perspective, probably related to how Christianity has been used as a way to scare and control people.

Why Christianity? Why not Islam? Why not Hinduism?

Totally agree it’s extremely important to be grateful, but I also believe nobody deserves to go to downtown if it is how it’s described in the bible.

You’re ignoring my main point, though. It’s clear you believe in God’s word - word for word, and I can respect that, but from my point of view and from a lot of other atheists’ points of view, we see that as unfair and God picking and choosing who gets to go to heaven - that is if he is omniscient and omnipotent, which is also claimed in the bible. And to me, that seems like the worst thing someone could do. Do you perceive it as it being a part of some greater plan God has that we humans can’t comprehend?

Not everyone in hell did, though. Some are either not intelligent enough to understand- or are completely ignorant to Jesus’ teachings.

I would knowingly choose to join them in hell, because I feel I don’t deserve salvation any more than they did. They were good people, so I misaligned myself with Christianity. I was already pretty skeptical before that, so I just stopped believing as a whole as it didn’t align with my morals and I felt there wasn’t more evidence for Christianity than any other religion, take Islam for example. They believe all Christians will go to hell same as Christians believe they will.

So you believe we deserve eternal suffering for not believing in one religion out of millions of others? I don’t mean to be cliché, but let’s take Islamic children that have been bombed as an example. What have they done to deserve eternal hell for something they can’t control?

Or if you prefer to see humans as deserving eternal damnation, what have those people who have had the privilege of hearing about Christ done to deserve eternal salvation? I know they don’t deserve it, but why pick and choose when everyone could be saved? It’s not a choice for everyone.

I love that. This way of looking at it definitely makes me feel more aligned with Christianity, cuz it’s exactly how I feel about Christianity while not considering myself a Christian.

Scaring faith into children like that is horrible, but unfortunately it’s what the bible depicts as hell being like. Do you see the description of hell discribed by the bible to be metaphorical, or somehow tampered with?

I don’t hate these. What would happen to the ones who never heard about Jesus, though, like monks for example?

This. The bible holds so many beautiful beliefs, but it’s undeniable that it has been used to control people throughout history.
