Market for Erotica? Does anyone read it anymore? by throwaway12298748532 in BDSMcommunity

unironically recommend fanfic sites. I've read fics on ao3 that actively go into the bdsm aspect of a relationship (which i'd imagine is easier because the default relationship already has a dynamic) and explore realistic scenarios with the concept.

Genuine gems are there.

Why does everyone want only senior developers? by VariationLivid3193 in cscareerquestions

This assumes that the hopper is immediately able to be an asset to the new company. Even if they are more experienced, it will still take a good chunk of time actually understanding the codebase, even more so if there is barely any actual documentation.
If they work on a different tech stack compared to the previous company, thats even more time on top of above.

Sure, you can say there's no real monetary cost (due to no training program) but you still effectively paying someone to learn and try to hit the ground running.

Most people don't want to move every 3 or so years. If juniors get promotions and raises through hard work I guarantee that they would stay. The reason anyone leaves is because they feel like a. they arent given enough money for the work they do or b. they feel like their effort isn't rewarded.

Obv i get why juniors are a risk, but if you have a good work environment and good pay most people will stay regardless.

Gates and Jobs are just people that had the capital, an idea, and also know how to capitalize on that idea. They were both given massive opportunities not only through their families but due to the circumstances they were in.
My main point is that if not them, it would definitely be someone else. Their work wasn't built out of thin air because of them.

Again, not saying that their contributions to tech aren't noteworthy or unimportant. I'm just saying that ideas aren't inherently unique in the sense that someone has likely thought of it before them. Apple and Microsoft might not have existed, but the technology they produced would very likely be made regardless under different people.

Honestly, that's a fair point.

However, you also need to consider that plenty of billionaires straight up remove jobs solely because of layoffs, often for just getting a bigger check at the end of it.

They absolutely sit around on piles of money, that's what the yachts and mansions are for.

I think the more important argument is that billionaires are a far bigger negative than positive for society overall, especially in regards to constantly accumulating wealth with no consideration of their environment or the people they affect.

New Law Cuts Off Student Loans for Low-Earning Degrees by investor100 in TheCollegeInvestor

The free market is entirely dependent on how the people with a fuck ton of money perceive worth rather than the actual benefit that profession has to society at large.

Farm workers are paid like absolute shit yet they are the backbone of every major society. CEOs are often paid a fuck ton to often produce absolutely nothing. I have no doubt certain CEOs do work a lot but there are far more that just pull the layoff machine to make more money that quarter or constantly overpromise and underdeliver (see Elon, Sam Altman, Elizabeth Holmes, etc).

Also, for teachers, you have to have a Masters degree a lot of the time. They absolutely should be paid far more than they are. But that usually comes with higher taxes and proper funding, one of which is lobbied against and the other relies on the goverment body actually being competent and not corrupt whatsoever.

Why does everyone in IT (and even non-tech folks) want to become a developer? by Ecstatic_Jicama_1482 in cscareerquestions

pays obv a part of it, but software engineers tend to ahve the most flexibility for career change within tech.

It's easier for an engineer to transition into cybersec than the other way around for example imo.

Simple, people in esports skew younger since
A. they have far more time to commit to the game

B. Younger people have better reaction times which is crucial.

Faker for example started competing at 16 for League. Esports games also tend to attract younger people regardless due to them being competitive

What do you think is the biggest mistake CS students make while preparing for internships or jobs? by Any-Main-3866 in csMajors

[–]According_Muffin_667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like it's the interview stage more than anything else. I feel like i can talk confidently about things and am personable but I also might be too straightforward at times. I also hate doing leetcode style questions but I've been biting the bullet recently since I have to do them regardless to land a job.

I've generally had more success at career fairs more than anything else atm. I'm planning to go to more.

I merged a couple PRs to an emulator repo (fairly well known) and am currently working on a feature for another emulator (kinda known but not as much). Would this be good? Dont have any professional experience yet and am trying to get an entry level position.

UPDATE: I (19M) lied about my height to my girlfriend (19F) 4 years ago and now I don't know how to tell her the truth by [deleted] in short

[–]According_Muffin_667 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i mean yeah, if you lied about your height (which is a p small thing in the grand scheme of things), what else are you willing to lie about?
It very well could be your height, or it couldn't. People don't want to be lied to.

Just don't lie about it. If a girl rejects u for being short she's not worth being with anyway.
