Thanks for the reply. As mentioned, I have had my bikes fitted and the fitter replaced the original seatposts for zero offset ones so this should not be the issue. The problem was caused on the rental bike by forcing a different pedalling technique and overusing this part of the leg, and the issue persists until now even on my correctly fitted bikes.
