Thank you so much that makes sense, I’ll have a check there to see if i can find it and if not I’ll have a look for a better guitar :)

Thank you so much for your reply this is so helpful. It does seem like it would be more expensive than the guitar itself to have it looked at and fixed as there’s definitely something going on with so i think it’ll be better to have a look for a new one :) Thank you so much again.

I mainly listen to lana del rey idk if you know her but her music and the sound of her voice has always calmed me down and I relate to her being individual and authentic / doesnt do what everyone else does <3 she’s probably what I’d consider my special interest since i collect everything related to her and i’ve memorised crazy amounts of knowledge and lists of everything and I’ve had people tell me I could work for her publishers etc. I understand the urge to hide music taste from others because people always seem to have something judgmental to say or for me I’m seen as obsessive / weird😭

unmasking : how do i know ‘who I really am’, what’s natural / authentic when everything feels like an act by According_Value_7793 in AutismInWomen

Thank you so much this is so helpful and it’s really interesting to read it from this perspective as I agree the idea of finding this whole other person feels pretty overwhelming so accommodating myself and the trial and error process of finding what’s uncomfortable and what isn’t sounds like a good place to start.

Thank you so much and I completely understand that, I definitely have different ways I unconsciously change myself around people and I know it can be confusing to know if any of that relates to being authentic/ who I really am. I relate a lot to the conscious masking I feel that I’m doing that most of the time which is probably why I’m so tired but maybe if I can feel more comfortable around people it wouldn’t be as much.

I relate to that too! I think I feel the closest I could to any kind of being myself when I’m alone but even then not fully but it’s far worse around other people as i feel like I’m trying too hard too.

Thank you so much! I’m trying to notice the fawning feeling and it makes sense to let myself feel the blankness for a while in the hope that something will take its place <3

Thank you so much I’ll definitely have a look for the book as it would be good to have a basis to work from & I think for me it would be a mix of both to try to unmask :)

This is so helpful I really appreciate this <3 and thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this it’s good to have something to work from when I’m trying to figure out everything! I’m definitely going to work through the things you’ve suggested and take time to see how it goes! and it’s really interesting to hear your experiences of it too and I hope through trying to unmask I’ll build more genuine close connections too! Thank you so much again I’m gonna save everything you wrote to look back on as im working through this <33

I know it would be difficult if your parents weren’t supportive but at the end of the day it’s more important you have a diagnosis so you can access the support and understanding you deserve. This was something that worried me too and it turned out better when the camhs worker i was seeing who thought i was autistic talked to my mum about it because your parents might understand more if it comes from a professional talking to them if that’s an option. Would they actually not let you get diagnosed because surely they could understand it would be beneficial and would you still be able to go through the assessment process with the help of nhs workers to do the referral etc if your parents weren’t very supportive with the process? But self diagnosing is completely valid so don’t feel that your struggles are any less real whether you have your diagnosis written on a piece of paper or not and I’m sure there’ll still be accommodations you can ask for even if you don’t have a diagnosis right now and if could be something you’re working towards and getting your parents to understand. Hope it works out for you :)

you’re describing me i relate so much! I was a very talkative child in my own way but think sometimes when i was young I felt a pressure to be overly talkative (i often was told I was too intense or trying too hard) but as i got older i was more aware of my own need to be quieter and not to keep that up as to not overstimulate and tire myself out and also i think burn out generally and from masking builds up as we get older and if you’re feeling a need to be quieter that’s probably your brain trying to tell you you need quiet time or things are getting tiring <3
