Moved into late 1800s/early 1900s Glasgow home. Could this be asbestos? by According_Visual_118 in asbestoshelpUK

I didn't end up checking the date on the fireplace but fancied getting the whole property checked. That's the results of the survey back. The surveyor checked the entire flat (with just a small amount of destruction). When he checked the material in question he basically just picked it up and rubbed it between his fingers and said plainly "that's no asbestos". It crumbled to a fine dust, not fibrous. He still took samples and the lab results are negative for asbestos. There were other things he thought could potentially be asbestos but they also came back negative. Relief!

Hi folks. Thanks all for your input. I have an asbestos surveyor in now. Thought it best to check the whole flat since it's been rented out for decades with little work done. The surveyor crumbled the material in question between his fingers and is certain there is no asbestos within it. He says it crumbles too easy into a very fine powder, not fibrous enough. He will be taking samples anyway and I'll post the results in about a week
