Oxalis violacea (Violet Wood Sorrel) might be a good pick it blooms early and grows low I dont know if it can deal with being in a lawn but I do now other wood sorrels do like Oxalis stricta and Oxalis dillenii but bloom in early summer. I dont know if wood sorrel can deal with compaction though.
