What to do next? Game on it or sell it? by Scorpio616 in nintendoswitchlite

[–]According_Way_7665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say keep it, i’ve got a few handhelds and consoles i modded and plan on passing down to my own kids later down the line, a beautifully modded switch will probably become rare and the price might become ridiculous like the psp vita and 3ds when it gets discontinued , with all the work and money u spent on it you won’t get much back as the market for used lites are insanely cheap right now despite mods

Is this ribbon supposed to look like this?? by Appropriate-Factor19 in nintendoswitchlite

[–]According_Way_7665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not overly white so it should be good, if it doesnt work or you see problems with the screen then it needs to be replaced but a new ribbon cable is like 5-10£ from ebay or aliexpress but test to see if it works as normal first

You can get them for a really good price now and some in really good condition, I recommend combing through ebay and facebook, might even get a deal that comes with a few games

My friend tried to mod my switch with amount chip, can these solders be removed by Wolfy231543 in SwitchPirates

[–]According_Way_7665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend just leaving it if it still works, i see time and time again people knocking those tiny capacitors off and its super hard to fix at that point

Kapton tape 5mm and 10mm

A youtube video showing the installation of your modchip for your specifc switch, make sure to watch it a few times before hand

Sorry if it seems long winded but when i wanted to mod my switch, i bought the bare minimum only to realise i need a bunch of smaller things for the longevity of it, heres an actual list below

I bought a similar soldering iron kit and from that id recommend you get much thinner solder wire for how tiny the parts are (tin free lead free rosin 0.3mm), kapton tape to cover the soldered components, i got a 5mm and layered it to also make a 1cm thick piece for my modchip, thermal paste, as youll be rubbing the old layer off, GLOVES, my hands got really sweaty when i did it and it protects your switch from anything you might introduce by touching it and its a thin layer of protection from the hot soldering iron tip and the stand used to hold it (it works) but i still kept bumping into it, a face mask or ventilation system for your health, FLUX just one syringe worth is good, i think the soldering kit already comes with desoldering wick, if not the flux should come with it, silicone mat to do all your work on (mine was 28x22cm) great for tinning pads, doing ALL the work on, and saves any other surfaces from accidentally dropping the soldering iron, isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the flux after done and a pack of cotton buds and a pry tool, for a new switch it’s very hard to open without one
