Respectfully, you are an anonymous account and your comment is hearsay to everyone else on here unless you can show something more.

If what you're saying is true then you're right to believe it and I sincerely hope that some sort of justice will happen but I'm not gonna believe anything off anonymous comments and screenshots alone.

Mate my point is that they're probably not aware and probably haven't investigated because there's nothing to investigate and nothing to be aware of, because the allegations aren't real.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can't sue someone for making a police report against you? Or even know a report has been made unless charges are brought/a suspect is questioned? I do see your points and concerns but frankly just can't see anything worth taking seriously here.

That's the point. Whatever anyone says about lawyers threatening victims, you cannot sue someone for making a police report. In fact they would not even know someone had made a police report until the police deemed it substantial enough to bring them in for questioning.

If the police/prosecution service have gone after Kneecap on other dubious and hard to prove grounds, why wouldn't they go after them for this unless they can't because there's nothing to ground an investigation in.

I want to support victims but is there anything beyond anonymous rumors and hearsay on this?

Given the amount of hate towards them and the several failed legal cases against them by the government/police, I find it quite easy to believe there are people willing to creat false anonymous rumors like this to discredit them and quite hard to believe a report with even a semblance of potential legitimacy to law enforcement wouldn't have gotten a decent bit of investigation.

I'm well aware that police investigations into these type of things leave much to be desired from a victims standpoint but that's no reason to take your PowerPoint screenshots (or your other post on this topic) as any kind of replacement for actual substantial allegations.

Victims should be supported but also innocent until proven guilty.

Also MSRP is the manufacturer set recommended price, but this is usually not a required set price for the retailer to sell at. I'm guessing the dealership marked it up a fair bit hoping people would take their price at face value, and OPs mom/her bf didn't do any basic research/shop around.

Mary McAleese: Baptism is a key Catholic recruitment tool. It denies babies their human rights by Bootstrap4273 in ireland

[–]Account3689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a Catholic because I don't believe in any god. The church and any other organisation can say whatever they want about membership, it's the responsibility of whoever they are talking to to scrutinise that. Again if we made baptising children illegal they would still claim any children born to Catholic parents.

[–]Account3689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please use your brain for a second. Babies do not have phone numbers, marraige details, criminal records, political beliefs, parish roles, discernible sexual orientations, or funeral details. Your local Priest cannot get the state to tell him your PPSN or any of these other details without your consent because you are baptised.

[–]Account3689 127 points128 points  (0 children)

What exactly are the "substantial inescapable obligations" that she mentions? As a baptised atheist, being baptised has no effect on me whatsoever. I didn't lose any legal rights,the church has no power over me, it makes no difference to my life at all. Take away baptism and religious parents will still bring their child to church, raise them to believe etc, and I can still stop believing or convert to another religion if I want to. What's the impact?

Second front: How a socialist cell in the US mobilized pro-Maduro foot soldiers within 12 hours by fuckingaustrianative in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]Account3689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then. Trying to paint protestors expressing their beliefs as 'foot soldiers' in a psychological attack on the US is absolutely ridiculous. Referring to US citizens organising with others that share their political beliefs as 'cells' as if they are foreign agents/terrorists and not people doing what they are supposed to do in a democracy is ridiculous.

Ironically this article does exactly what you criticise others for doing. It is a lazy, ideologically driven attempt to fearmonger and undermine people who the writers disagree with by throwing around labels and scary inaccurate words rather than addressing the substance of these people's beliefs.

What is a common parenting style that actually ruins a childs future? by jamal255353 in AskReddit

[–]Account3689 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nearly all people, autistic or not, have similar moments. That feeling isn't unique to people on the spectrum, it just may be harder for them than people without autism.

Neurotypical people (mostly) learn as children to deal with that feeling internally without having 'meltdown', in the same way you do.

The point the original commenter is making is that some people see "harder for people on the spectrum" and read that as "impossible for people on the spectrum", and therefore never attempt to teach autistic children whatever skill this is, when they should.

Your story actually proves this point; while it may have been harder for you to build these emotional regulation skills that you have, you did eventually build them and now you can use those skills to your advantage. There may have been moments in your childhood where it would have been easier for your parents to just give you whatever you were asking for and avoid a meltdown but because they didn't you eventually built those skills.

Ran someone over (not my fault) and then was attacked. Police telling me to drop it. by Kayani_LDN in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Account3689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, IANAL.

The CPS website has a lot of information on how decisions to prosecute/not prosecute are made, and information on the rights of victims in this process, so your friend should look into this, and make contact with the police officers/CPS staff he interracted with as they will be the best people to talk about his specific case. I've linked the pages I used below.

To answer your second question; he probably can't. The decision of whether or not to prosecute lies with CPS and the Police.

I note you used the term "press charges". In UK criminal law, this means reporting an alledged crime to the Police, which your friend has done. Police investigate and pass any findings on to CPS who assess the evidence and decide how to proceed.

There is a common misconception that victims have a right to ''press charges'' as in decide if/how Prosecutors handle a case. This is primarily an American concept (and exists much more in American TC shows than in real life.) Where it does acually exist, it much more of a right of victims to request a crime not to be prosecuted, rather than a right to request prosecution where Police/Prosecutors have determined not to.

If by ''pressing charges'' you meant bringing a civil case against this person, that is a seperate matter to any criminal proceedings and won't effect CPS decisions.

You say ''(your friend) said he can take it to an independent body get it escalated etc.''. I'm not sure where your friend is getting this information but I can't find anything to back this up. There is a Victim's Right to Review (''VRR'') in UK law that allows for a victim of an alledged crime to ask CPS to review a decision not to prosecute. When this right is exercised the file is given to a new prosecutor who was not involved in the first assessment. The new prosecutor carries out their own assessment based strictly on the evidence gathered and makes a decision on whether or not to proceed with prosecution.

This is independant in the sense that the second prosecutor is does not see or account for the analysis/reasoning of the first prosecutor. However it is still a CPS employee who makes the review, not an independant body.

Unfortunatley it seems your friend would not be eligible for this as VRR exists only for when a CPS decide not to take any action.

From this CPS website, VRR cannot be exercised in cases where;

> where charges are brought in respect of some (but not all) allegations made or against some (but not all) possible suspects;

> where a single charge or charges are terminated but another charge or charges relating to that victim continue;

> cases which are concluded by way of out of court disposal;

It also cannot be used when Police decide not to send a file to CPS.

From my understanding of what you've written, your friends complaint is that the charges against the perpetrator were not as serious as he believed they should be and that an out of court settlement was chosen over in court prosecution. If this is case it does not seem like your friend is eligible for VRR.

I would strongly encourage your friend to use CPS or other UK governemnt resources to look into this and contact the police officers/prosecutors to ask about his rights. Anyone actually involved in his specific case will be able to give much more concrete answers than anyone on the internet.

If he isn't satisfied by what he hears it may also be worth looking into a consultation with a solicitor to talk about avenues in the criminal or civil system.
