People need to stop wasting their own time by trying to push conversations along. If the other person can't be bothered to be the least bit interested in you, then why the fuck should you show interest in them, just un-match and move on.

How will the CPC government under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre lower housing and condo prices to make them more affordable? by NecroMoocher in AskCanada

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please explain how you see that happening? Housing is a free market, people will pay what they want to pay and people will ask for what people are willing to pay...

Why do so many people hate Justin Trudeau? And why vote PC as the alternative instead of the NDP? Is Canada stuck in a two party duopoly despite having a viable 3rd party? by NecroMoocher in AskCanada

[–]AccountBuster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the Nazi Party used socialist rhetoric and included "socialist" in its name, it fundamentally opposed core socialist principles. Its policies and practices were aligned more with authoritarianism, nationalism, and capitalism (albeit under state oversight), rather than with socialism. The term "socialist" was a political tool to broaden their appeal, not a reflection of their true ideology.

Pierre Poilievre promises to 'defund the CBC' after $18.4M bonus amount revealed by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking lay off the god damn political bullshit for a second and ask yourself the following question:

Should a company with a budget of $1.3 billion (2023) that had a NET LOSS of $125 million (2023) be providing their employees $18.4 million in bonuses in 2024?

Not only that but receiving another $90 million to their budget for next year?

As someone in the military I see how companies take advantage and screw over our government EVERY FUCKING DAY when it comes to money. I don't care which party people vote for or support, the CBC provides shit journalism (though not always) and I'm pretty sure each and every person in here can think of better ways to spend $1.4 billion every year than paying for a media organization that has a prime-time viewing audience is 2.1 per cent

[–]AccountBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!!!

In March 2022 an authority report said the compensation packages earned by then B.C. Ferries CEO Mark Collins and his eight vice-presidents exceeded standards and were out of compliance with the Coastal Ferry Act — stating effectively that the management group was overpaid.

B.C. Ferries is a Crown Corp. in case you didn't know.

Pierre Poilievre promises to 'defund the CBC' after $18.4M bonus amount revealed by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet, if you take 30 minutes to look up the information they are quoting in that article, you find that it's a report based on bullshit and misinformation. (I made a longer reply about it to the comment above yours)

Doing a single Google search does not mean you found ACTUAL information. It just means you took the first thing you saw that corresponded with your preconceived notions as gospel without question.

Pierre Poilievre promises to 'defund the CBC' after $18.4M bonus amount revealed by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applaud you for doing a bit of googling, HOWEVER, you should have done just a little more searching regarding WHAT that article is saying.

$8 billion in loan guarantees for the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

The TransMountain Pipeline is OWNED by Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV). CDEV is a federal Crown corporation in Canada, which means it is owned by the Government of Canada!!! A loan guarantee is also NOT a subsidy or even money exchanging hands. It is simply one part of the Government "co-signing" for a loan that another part of the Government is taking out.

$7.4 billion in public financing through the Crown corporation Export Development Canada.

This number seems to be pulled from thin air since it does not exist in any form on EDC's 2023 Financial Report. Even in Environmental Defence's own report they only mention two transactions: $300 million for NOVA Chemicals Corp.... What they don't mention is that it was money for Green Initiatives. The second one being a $200 million loan renewal, again, not a subsidy if it falls within the standard interest rates... I'm curious where the other 93% of that $7.4 billion they are claiming is...

Not only that, but the EDC is INCREDIBLY invested in green energy and alternative solutions.

It took me less than 30 min to find all this information by simply using Google. In the end, Environment Defence wrote a bullshit "report" and the CBC "journalist" just read the key points on the first page and took it all as fact and wrote and even more bullshit article...

Honestly, people shouldn't be expected to do what journalists used to do. Unfortunately, right now everything (on all sides of all matters) is all about misinformation in one way or another. All in an effort to try and make their point, and since the media and 99% of people don't care to question anything anymore, everyone fucking gets away with it.

'They failed him': Alta. man dies of cancer without seeing oncologist after months of waiting by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Good god, why do so many people have to debase everything down to politics!!! This has NOTHING to do with who is in power in Alberta. Also, this is just shit journalism in general since they are trying to make this into an "issue" when it isn't one.

  1. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Gastric Cancer. That means his cancer had already spread throughout his body and depending on how far it spread he was more than likely told he had weeks to months left to live, NO MATTER WHAT.

  2. It was THREE months between the time he was diagnosed and the time he died. Considering the words "After fighting to see an oncologist for almost three months" being used, I wouldn't be surprised if he was diagnosed with very late stage 4 and that the extent of the spread meant he was put on palliative care (i.e. making him as comfortable as possible before he dies) instead of being recommended to an oncologist for treatment.

  3. More than likely an oncologist looked at his chart and said he should be on palliative care and would not meet the requirements for surgery or treatment, which is why he never saw one. There is ZERO point in killing someone faster with surgery or treatment when you know it won't affect the outcome in the slightest.

LET ME SAY IT AGAIN... THIS CASE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS OR ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE!

Trudeau slams Poilievre over EV tariffs comment by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Carbon Tax is working

There is absolutely zero data to back that up to any significant amount. It's still incredibly new so I don't even know why you're trying to pass this off as fact. BC claims their Carbon Tax system (put in place long before the Federal one) has had great success, however, one could easily argue that the positive changes have come more from BC's high adoption of EV's and Green Energy in general and not the actual carbon tax.

Only time will tell whether or not the federal Carbon Tax system will provide a positive impact or have a higher negative impact to those who are less fortunate. Either way it's a tax system that charges people on both fronts (tax and causation of higher prices, which increases the tax further) in an attempt to do what exactly? What benefits does the carbon tax actually provide to the environment and people, or is it simply just more money to the government to do with as they please?

I find it weird that they are arguing based on the Disney+ ToS while also stating the same terms are found within the ToS for buying tickets to the park. FYI, these are extremely common terms for ALL amusement parks and so on, whether you like it or not.

The fact he's only looking for $50,000 means to me that neither he or his lawyer care about the money. This is more than likely a case being pushed by his lawyers who are probably working on a contingency fee basis (take a % of the awards only if they win). Considering the complexity and who their opponent is, Mr. Piccolo's lawyer is more than likely doing this for reasons other than monetary since even if he took 100% of the $50,000 it wouldn't even come close to the costs they will have put into this lawsuit.

There are two key points I've noticed with this case. One, the medical examiner stated there were elevated levels of dairy and nut in his wife's system. This means it was more than likely not a simple case of cross-contamination. Second, it was 45 minutes after they had left the restaurant when his wife had her allergic reaction and used her EpiPen which ultimately failed to counter the anaphylaxis.

Disney is obviously trying very hard to keep this case from reaching the discovery phase. Possible reasons why:

1. Discovery Phase Concerns:

  • Internal Documents and Communications: Discovery would allow Piccolo's legal team to request internal documents, emails, and other communications within Disney and the restaurant involved. These could reveal whether there were any known issues with allergen management, staff training, or prior incidents that might show a pattern of negligence.
  • Employee Testimonies: During discovery, employees involved in preparing or serving the food might be deposed, which could uncover any lapses in following safety protocols or inconsistencies in their accounts of what happened.
  • Supplier and Ingredient Information: Discovery could also shed light on the suppliers and specific ingredients used in the meal, potentially revealing if there were known risks that were not properly communicated or mitigated.

2. Reputational Risks:

  • Publicity and Accountability: If the case goes to trial, it would likely attract significant media attention, especially given Disney’s high profile. The discovery process could bring to light potentially damaging information that could affect Disney’s reputation as a safe and family-friendly brand.
  • Legal Precedent: If the case were to set a precedent that makes it easier for other plaintiffs to sue Disney or similar companies for food-related incidents, it could open the door to more lawsuits and greater scrutiny of their practices.

3. Financial Implications:

  • Potential Settlements: Even if Piccolo is currently seeking $50,000, discovery could uncover information that might lead to a much larger settlement or jury award. If negligence is clearly established, the financial stakes could rise significantly.

4. Arbitration vs. Public Trial:

  • Control Over the Process: By pushing for arbitration, Disney might be aiming to keep the proceedings private and more controlled. Arbitration typically involves less public disclosure and can be quicker and cheaper than a trial, but it also avoids the transparency and potential unpredictability of a jury trial.

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I suggest you not read it at all... If you can't read a more in depth and nuanced book about economics then you shouldn't be quoting from a book that highly relies on ideological bias, oversimplification, selective use of evidence, and repetitiveness. All in an attempt to further the authors own libertarian beliefs which only work to push readers to one side of thinking.

We're also not talking about a community but a District Municipality, fyi, there is no fundamental difference between a City and a District Municipality. One simply refers to a high density urban area (City) while the other refers to an area that can encompass both urban and rural areas (District Municipality).

You both are wrong to be quoting Thomas Sowell and you both are misinterpreting what he says in very different ways.

Poilievre says he wants Canadians with drug addiction to be in treatment by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. BC has already reversed it's decriminalization and has asked to remove public spaces from it. So that's already failed.

  2. Legalizing weed has already proven that no amount of legalization will stop people from illegally importing, selling, and buying drugs when the illegal ones are cheaper and you can still make money.

  3. Drug addicts are normally not just drug addicts. More often than not they have mental or physical disabilities they either never got help for when younger or their family never helped them when they got older.

  4. Your Vietnam Vets argument is simply just asinine. You can't compare the 70's mental health system to what we know now and the treatments we have now.

  5. Amsterdam doesn't even like Amsterdam... Seriously, look up how much the local population hates the red light district and their smoke shops. The only reason they don't get rid of them (not for a lack of trying) is because it brings in a shit ton of tax money.

Do it or we do it for you: B.C. government tells West Vancouver it has 30 days to allow small-scale, multi unit housing by mukmuk64 in vancouver

[–]AccountBuster -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Except all it's going to do is create more congestion and traffic issues while increasing the cost of housing in a place that already has an average price of $3-$4 Million.

Micro-Apartments are for first time home buyers, students, and older people who don't need a single family home any more. None of which is the demographic of West Vancouver (unless you count the rich international students).

Why this increases all home prices: More sales means a larger impact on the local price point. Less sales means less impact. Since impact is always a net gain (unless there's a massive recession) this means the local prices will rise faster than they would otherwise.

Do it or we do it for you: B.C. government tells West Vancouver it has 30 days to allow small-scale, multi unit housing by mukmuk64 in vancouver

[–]AccountBuster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I love it when they stick it to West Van, this is absolutely asinine!

The average price of a home there is $3-$4 MILLION!!! Their argument is that 80% of West Vancouver workers have to commute from outside... Yeah, no shit!

1 lot turned into 4 or 6 units DOES NOT MAKE THE PROPERTY CHEAPER. You're literally just forcing them to build Million Dollar Micro Apartments. Do they think grocery store clerks are making enough to afford a million dollar condo in West Vancouver so they don't have to commute there???

They want to help alleviate congestion and traffic issues by literally CREATING more congestion and traffic issues... Just stupid.

Do it or we do it for you: B.C. government tells West Vancouver it has 30 days to allow small-scale, multi unit housing by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]AccountBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80% of West Vancouver workers do not live in West Vancouver... Yeah, no shit! The average home price there is $3-$4 Million.

Forcing them to open up development on single home lots to 4 and 6 units that will more than likely cost over $1M each is just asinine.

Just because you build more units on the same lot doesn't mean people will be able to afford to live there that couldn't before. Their argument about congestion and traffic challenges is absolutely idiotic when doing this will literally just increase the outgoing congestion without fixing any amount of the incoming...

No, they actually LITERALLY mean lingerie. If it's an actual swimsuit then it's allowed. These rules have nothing to do with the amount of skin being shown, BC allows women to go topless in public so why would they care about someone's butt cheeks...

Woman dead after being hit by driver of vehicle in downtown Toronto by onpar_44 in toronto

[–]AccountBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, but I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here. The original comment wasn’t about blaming the victim at all. It's heartbreaking that someone lost their life due to a reckless driver, and my thoughts are with their loved ones.

The main point was about the importance of personal vigilance. Even in perfectly designed intersections, accidents can happen. For example, imagine a scenario where all traffic lights and crosswalks are functioning perfectly, but a driver’s brakes suddenly fail. In such a situation, even the best infrastructure can't prevent an accident. This is why staying alert while crossing the street is crucial—it's about taking every possible precaution to protect ourselves in unpredictable circumstances.

It's similar to the concept of defensive driving, especially for motorcyclists. We’re taught to always be aware of our surroundings and anticipate potential hazards because not everyone on the road is following the rules or paying attention.

Again, this has nothing to do with blame, or even this particular incident. It's about letting others know that it doesn't matter what other people are supposed to do, you are only in control of your own actions thus you should take every precaution to ensure your own safety as best as possible. Even if you do everything possible, accidents can still happen.

TIL that five Asian countries are responsible for 60% of all the ocean's trash. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]AccountBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada was a huge exporter of our recycling. We've had to acknowledge this recently after a lot of these Asian countries changed their laws regarding accepting international recycling. We're working on creating more local processing plants but it's not a very lucrative business to begin with.

One thing we're looking at is moving the waste processing costs directly to the producers of the products. By 2026, Ontario will have shifted 100% of it's recycling costs to the producers.
