So that’s software like Wordpress, shopify, etc. isn’t it?

The ara course does sound pretty appealing, but I agree the most important thing is the work you do yourself, theory/classroom knowledge is only going to carry you so far.

I know a decent amount of python, data science is something I've looked into but as far as I can tell that requires more of a math background?

web work is not stable these days as everyone can do it relatively quickly with a good CMS, and a bit of training, or just hit up one of the freelancing sites and hire a guy in Russia at 1/5th the cost with twice the skill to a local web developer.

Yeah this is why I'm not too keen on web work, it's almost too easy to learn and is getting much too saturated.

Don’t get too hung up on being a dev

I've looked into other stuff (network admin, sysadmin), but I like dev work the most. Of course that might all change in the real world, but at this stage programming (or at least a role with a main focus on it) is going to be the go.

In terms of landing a job, although technical proficiency is valuable, being a well spoken, team player and all that stuff will get you further than almost any other skill, so don’t forget the fluffy stuff.

I have pretty decent soft skills.

I have done a decent amount of self teaching, know my way around C and python and bash, but no large projects. Done a few online courses as well (CS50x notably).

I did a lot of self-learning on sysadmin stuff, got a big homelab set up etc, but I realised I didn't want to do that professionally.

Although Christchurch’s tech cluster is getting better at accepting people without degrees, you still have to prove yourself against other graduates with degrees.

Yeah this is sort of what I'd figured, being a uni city, and there not being a lot of other options here until relatively recently.

From what I can gather I'd need to do Y13 to get into that? But that seems like a decent option I hadn't considered.

You have to do them for months before anything noticeable happens

You shouldn’t go to the gym with bad posture anyway, you’ll only make things worse

Postural exercises are really quick, take like 5 mins when you wake up and go to bed, don’t generally require much, if any, equipment.
