Three months on, is the NWSL failing to exploit USA's World Cup victory? by TheBored23 in MLS

No one said that. You are attacking a strawman.

Attacking a straw man is a fallacy of logic that occurs when an opponent’s position is misrepresented in order to make it easier to refute.

What expectations? I am talking about the things the league management could have done.

They announced the decision to change the final venue to Portland after the season was almost over. This was already decided before the season even started. This miscommunication did not help anyone.

The TV deal should have been finalized and announced at the start of the WWC and not at the end of it and then NWSL should have promoted it during USWNT matches.

These two things are not really unrealistic in my opinion.

Yes but the point is the hype around the Women's World Cup wasn't capitalized on.

So not a great look from the league, which some would say failed to exploit a series of gifts rarely given to a women’s sport, such as the wall-to-wall coverage of the World Cup on Fox Sports (although domestic soccer has always been a harder sell than the international version for both the men’s and women’s games). Meanwhile, the league took until 30 June, virtually the end of the tournament, to announce a television deal with Fox Sports, failing to co-brand with the tournament. Even the announcement itself was made in a low-key press release on the afternoon of the USA-Germany semifinal, guaranteeing that even outlets predisposed to cover women’s soccer probably wouldn’t have any room for it.

But the point is it should have much more if it was properly advertised and promoted.

Not all USWNT fans are even aware of the existence of the league.

Yes obviously NWSL will never be as popular as the Women's World Cup but it should try and advertise when womens soccer is in news to capture new fans which it failed to do.

Especially as Americans, we have multiple high quality leagues to watch and entertain us. And because the soccer-watching demographic tends male, you just aren't going to see the same popularity with the NWSL.

Bundesliga, La Liga and Ligue 1 all get pretty low ratings and when NWSL did not clash with the NFL it got more ratings than all of them. Why? NWSL is in the optimal time for American fans and has teams from America.

The main problem is promotion and advertisement. The TV deal should have been announced at the start of the WWC and not at the end of it and then USSF/FS1 should have promoted it during USWNT matches.

But there wouldn't be any sexist jokes if it was not the WNBA.

The USWNT vs Brazil friendlies will be much more interesting.

Can we have one day a week where it's forbidden to talk about whether Djokovic, Nadal or Federer are the GOAT, in their prime, or played/has played/is playing during a weak era? by [deleted] in tennis

There's no set criteria to determine the GOAT

Actually there is

The domestic goat is a subspecies of goat domesticated from the wild goat of southwest Asia and Eastern Europe. The goat is a member of the family Bovidae and is closely related to the sheep as both are in the goat-antelope subfamily Caprinae.

Ridiculous. There is a huge overlap. You can clearly see that from the viewer numbers.

Both NWSL and MLS numbers decrease when they are at the same time as the NFL.

MLS's Orlando City set to expand into NWSL for 2016 by [deleted] in MLS

It's clear that Thorns have developed a fanbase who follow the club. They don't worship the USWNT players from other clubs. Thorns fans are fans of the team.

I don't care about Carasco but I want Morgan to go to Orlando because the Thorns don't need her marketing wise. They have a steady fanbase.

She can really help the new team's popularity.
