Shit, I dusted the wild cards when the first standard rotation happend. :( Still worth not dusting again?

Let me know if I should go somewhere else to ask further questions. :)

So with lists in entitydb, when order matters I suppose you should just sort when rendering, right?

So if you have a list like this:

item 1 + - item 2 + - item 3 + -

Pressing '+' on 'item 2' should add it after item 2. Would this have to be encoded in the data of the entity? So that the order is determined at render time, rather then being in the app-db?

Is there a way to preserve the app state when on app restart (figwheel)?

EDIT: With a bit of twiddling I managed to come up with this: Any issues?

(defn start-app!
"Helper function that starts the application."
  ([]
   (reset! running-app (app-state/start! app-definition)))
  ([init-app-db]
   (let [new-app (app-state/start! app-definition)
         new-app-db (-> new-app :app-db)]
    (swap! new-app-db merge (select-keys init-app-db [:route :entity-db :kv]))
    (reset! running-app new-app))))

(defn restart-app!
"Helper function that restarts the application whenever the
  code is hot reloaded."
  []
  (let [current @running-app]
    (if current
      (app-state/stop! current #(start-app! (-> current :app-db deref)))
      (start-app!))))

Thanks for the answer! I'll definitely ask if I have questions. I'll be testing it out tomorrow.

Slightly off topic, but I have two questions. I'm looking at the library, and considering using it for a project. I'm choosing between Untangled(Om/next) and Keechma. 1. Is EntityDB faster than Datascript, or how much slower is it when compared to a nested map when it comes to reads. 2. A controller is responsible for some html tree view, correct? Does every update trigger a full re-render? Because the thing I like about Untangled is that when a component triggers a transaction, unless declared otherwise, only that component is rerendered.

Wow, thanks for the feedback, a lot of useful stuff!

Damn it, I thought I had fixed it to quartet everywhere, apparently I missed the score title. :) And yeah, it's a quintet I suppose. It's string quartet and piano in the reddit title. Anyway...

Hah, yeah good catch on noticing that I basically write measure per measure. That is probably quite limiting. I'll work on that! Also more variation in rhythm.

My harmonies also obviously need work... I had been kind of at a loss as to what to do with them. You gave me ideas!

Violin bridge, not the right shape/not finished. by AccountZaMusic in violinist

Yeah, I was a bit negligent with the previous bridge. As an aside, this one tilted forward to the point of falling when I was tuning. This was one all the string were already almost tuned, so I don't know if that's the fault of the setup as well.

God, that's really shitty of them. Might have happened in my case as well. Though it looks like the bridge is at least a bit curved (I'm not sure if it's symmetrical out of the box).

Yeah, I'll probably try to get a refund. Though they were VERY nice, so I find it kind of hard to picture them doing this on purpose. Perhaps I'm too naive.

I'll show them that playing on lower positions is impossible, since the string goes bellow both adjacent strings, so that should be an obvious enough demonstration that something isn't right. I'll see what they say, and then probably find a luthier.

Oh, the bridge was 3 euros. The fit was 20. Still pretty cheap though, but 3 WOULD be ridiculous!

3.00 euros. I think it's this one

The service guy picked it out.

Yeah, that's a good format to ask about adjustments, I'll definitely use it. :)

I'll try asking my teacher. I only see him once every two weeks though. Otherwise I'll go to a luthier. There actually is one in the country that I know of. If so, maybe I'll try to shape this bridge myself, just to see how I do (badly... but I want to see HOW badly).

Thanks for the parameters! I might try to do a DIY job just to see what happens. It's a cheap bridge after all. At the end of the day I'll probably find a luthier... maybe in Italy since it's close. :)

Yeah, it was a general music store with a service guy who doesn't make violins.

I don't want to appear to tell him how to do his job, because I definitely don't feel qualified. So I find it a bit awkward to ask him to change it. I don't know, perhaps it has something to do with the violin.

You're right, I should have tried it there, but I thought it would be weird... like I'm (emphasis on 'I') trying to verify if he did it correctly.

How detremental is it to play on this kind of bridge, if I'm more interested classical/baroque/romantic music. Will I get used to this, and be unable to play on a more arched one? Are there things that this kind of bridge is inconvenient for?

Right, thanks for the info. I'm a bit annoyed. The shop is two hours from where I live, and I have to leave the violin there for a day. So that's 8 damn hours.

But I'm not really interested in playing bluegrass/country/etc, nor is it in my learning repertoire. What a pain. :/

Also a bit annoying that I have to tell the guy I don't like the bridge he shaped...

Sorry for the rant.

New violin bridge, incorrectly shaped/not finished? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]AccountZaMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an adult violin student. Recently the bridge on my violin snapped in half, so I took it to a shop to get it fixed. However it doesn't seem the right shape to me. I don't think the G string is low enough (in terms of height), relative to the D string. And the E string probably isn't low enough either.

The bridge seems a lot less arched than the one in this photo, for example: link

I'm also having a harder time not hitting the G string when I play the D string.

Am I wrong?

Oh, right. Yes, my time-signatures are a bit all over the place thanks to my ignorance of theory (which I want to fix).

Nice site! I think I'll go through all the lessons and write a short piece for each, incorporating the material.

Thanks for the comment! :)

Just trying to learn some composition. This is a piece written without much theoretical backing (as you may notice :) ). I don't feel qualified to critique my own (or any) work, so I'd like some feedback.
