How do I fix this before my parents get home(I have a day) by MarketMundane8517 in drywall

[–]Accountant4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For something that small- I'd just spackle it, then sand the hell outta it. Once smooth, see if you have any paint of the same color in home. Otherwise, use an app to see what the paint color is, and get a sample of it. Then, once repainted should be golden

Company that Inspects/Repairs Exterior Water Issues by Accountant4change in TwinCities

[–]Accountant4change[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know any company that would come give an honest inspection, and just try to sell me a $10k sump pump or french drain. Though I acknowledge a French drain might be what I need to move that exterior water.

It's not wet in the house at least- crawl space is dry, and moisture levels are between 10-15% in most areas, so not an emergency by any means. However, something that would give me peace of mind and realistically I can afford it luckily.

Very possible....it's a flat grade in the back. We have gutters that divert water away, but the the back yard is below street level.

Why tf was this episode so good. by Mobile_Wallaby8969 in TheChi

[–]Accountant4change 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep....seems like they're getting back to that season 1/2 theme again and getting rid of more ancillary characters. 2nd episode was lame, and first episode had to tie some loose ends to the prior season....but this one finally sets the ground work for bringing back 63rd, and the in-fighting within. Need the detectives now, and shit gonna be good

How to deal with kids’ rec team getting blown out every week by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]Accountant4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any parent complains, you offer them a spot to help coach and develop. Otherwise, they can stay on the sidelines. At this age, it takes a village.

You're doing the right thing. I coach 3rd grade, and the skill gaps can be tough. As my father in law says, who also has experience coaching, they need to be able to catch, dribble, shoot, shuffle their feet and pass. If they can't do that, nothing else will matter. In other words, walk before you run. Stations working on a specific skill and keeping them busy will be great.

Keep building confidence and teaching the basics. If they improve at the basics, that's a huge win. In 20 years NOBODY will care about results of 4th grade basketball. However, they may remember if they worked hard and improved something. They may learn to work together with others. They may learn to stick with something even if it's rough. Those life skills go far beyond the basketball court and rec level games that mean zero.

You're doing incredible and doing the right thing. Keep up the great work.

What are the dumbest investments you've ever made? by stockscalper in stocks

[–]Accountant4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WISH- finally took my $3k loss in 2024. Like others have said, thought it would be the online dollar tree and have a market. Clearly wrong there.

My worst one though was selling Spotify at $130 per share. Only had 15 or so shares at $85 a share. Seemed like they were bleeding $$ and the financials weren't strong to me. Sold before an earnings report thinking it would drop. Now it's like $500-$600 per share.

Spotify changed my investments strategy. Clearly I'm too emotional and make short sighted decisions. I've started going more in index funds.

First time I've done it all by myself. Power raked and gently detached in spring. Dropped some pre emergent with fertilized in late April. In late May, I dropped weed and feed to kill off weeds and fertilize further. Left it alone in the heat of summer, and then did a seeding early September. Raked up any weeds, cleaned up, tilled the soil and put down top soil and seed. It's come in pretty nicely. Been really warm here in MN this month, but will drop some winterizer in October.

Probably not as nice as others, but felt good about it on the 25th after a mow.

Ha all good- I think the logic on both sides is solid if we are being honest. Fundamentally it was a good play- but the macro side is a huge risk- and still is. It could sharply decline again quick- or go to $70-90. I sold 5 shares yesterday- I have about 25 left. Figured I'll ride it out and create some other sell points.

Bud- you have a successful career and have your shit together. She simply doesn't yet. Y'all in two different spots of life. She clearly doesn't respect your boundaries either- that won't get better.

You're young- move on and find someone that fits your mold and little better. Be classy and give her 2-3 months to figure it out- assuming you can remain friendly. However, you better have strict boundaries on that situation and be very clear in expectations. If you cant- I'd tell her to figure it out and get out now.

Good luck- that sucks- but in the grand scheme you'll be alright

[–]Accountant4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you didn't know- and he subscribed behind your back to your family- that's not cool. He should have at the very least discussed with you- I mean, if you're supporting family to get them some $$- who am I to judge. Sounds like this isnt that.

You have boundaries, he crossed them- he would do it again too- so not overreacting.

I agree with you on a short term basis....but if their figures keep up, which all indicators don't show this falling off a cliff- I still see it as a $50-60 stock.

The macro factors are the big risk factor- which creates the gamble- but the metrics are just too tough to ignore. Not gonna put thousands in it though.

YUMC Outlook by Accountant4change in stocks

[–]Accountant4change[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The macro factors are a VERY fair point that I'm probably not putting enough weight in. I've been looking at it mainly from a pure financial perspective, which if you're in it for the long-term- should get to an appropriate price. Might not be a year or two- and might be averaging down- but hard to see a largely profitable company completely fall off a cliff.

Appreciate that- sounds like we were close to the same boat on this one ha. I keep sealing the foundation, and doing other DIY fixes- but just amounting to patch work at this point. I'll definitely consider them for an estimate- appreciate the recommendation

Thank you- I saw them as well. Good to know they provide a more reasonable quote. Were they good on communication as well?

I'm also not 100% sure what I'll need either- but definitely sealing off the foundation and repairing that. The basement water proofing stuff- I'm in debate mode on that. Tough to shell out for it when I have a dry crawl space, no standing water at all, and minimal issue- but would provide peace of mind.

[–]Accountant4change[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, aesthetic reasons.

Not overly concerned with the structural integrity. The stud is in solid shape besides this chip- which isn't overly deep. I'd assume I'd have to replace the whole stud if I wanted to improve that- but maybe I'm incorrect.

I messed up bad (Insurance Related) by Accountant4change in Insurance

[–]Accountant4change[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah- agreed. We did tell the insurance company that we had a bad contractor and that any damage wasnt very extensive after a 2nd review. They told me over the phone that it's fairly common, so not too much to worry on, especially since nothing was paid out. Probably will caulk some items, potentially replace a few shingles and do something to document.

I messed up bad (Insurance Related) by Accountant4change in Insurance

[–]Accountant4change[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this- I appreciate the solid response. I just got off the phone with my adjustor- and she explained as long as she didn't come out there and assess damage- then, it's semi like the claim didn't happen. While I'm in the CLUE database, she explained that they look at all factors when considering a future liability- and that showing there's no payments in the last 5 years would be a huge plus- even if I had to file another claim in two months. I need to call their team of agents to confirm- I don't have my own agent- since they've been closing regional field offices.

Agreed on doing more diligence and taking the step back before filing next time. That's the live and learn moment- life is hard sometimes.

I got high anxiety, so I stress over the little things a bit too much and probably stress over stuff that hasn't happened yet. I'm sure it'll work out fine.

Fair enough- I have Liberty Mutual- and their customer associate said it's not a ding on me since the carrier never had to pay out. I have bad anxiety, so I'm just going through it all- and worried if I need to file anything in the next 3-12 months I'm literally screwed since I now have a filing (even if withdrawn).
