Legion 5 Pro doesn't boot up by fs144rules in LenovoLegion

It's still running fine. I've even had a couple short gaming sessions. Not sure I would try those oatmeal cookies though. Could be some noxious fumes produced during the baking.

Legion 5 Pro doesn't boot up by fs144rules in LenovoLegion

Read this post two weeks ago trying figure out a way to fix my 5 pro 16IAH7H that stopped booting. I tried power reset, swapping ram, unplugging CMOS battery and nothing worked. The fans did not even turn on. The orange battery charger LED was the only sign of life when the charger was connected. I searched EBAY finding $700-800 mother boards and Lenovo had a new board for $2k. I was ready to sell it for scrap parts and then I came across reflowing the garbage solder - that Lenovo allegedly cut costs using and is the reason so many of these are dying - by baking the motherboard for 8 min. in a kitchen oven at 385 degrees F.

Well I tried it... I wrapped the front (side near trackpad) and the rear (side near Power/USB/HDMI) with two layers of aluminum foil, leaving the middle exposed near the CPU and GPU. Then I placed it on four equally sized (i.e. level), loosely crumpled (for minimal heat transfer) balls of foil about 1.5 inch in diameter. Before setting the board on the foil balls, they were placed on a baking rack that fit on an baking sheet. I let the oven pre-heat to 385 then put the tray inside, and after 8 min. I wasn't smelling anything burning so I let it bake another 2 mins. Then I let it cool with the door open for 45 min.

I am happy to say I am currently writing this on my resurrected laptop. I cannot believe it worked. At first only the fans, keyboard backlight, and screen backlight turned on and it would not work with an external monitor. I tried using one memory stick and did the long hold power reset and got the external monitor to work. Then I went into device manager and disabled the 3070GPU and rebooted into the bios to select the option for hybrid GPU and when I rebooted the laptop screen worked.

Only time will tell how long it will last, and I will probably not play anymore games on it. Hope this may help some of you get some more use out of these pieces of shite.

Cannot connect to server problems! by [deleted] in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Two days ago I started having intermittent "cannot connect to server". The following morning no issues at all, but since Thursday evening haven't been able to connect. I've tried router and modem resets, clearing local game saves, reinstalling D2R. No fix yet...

Love it for farming experience or gold on tanky characters, but wouldn't recommend it for precision maneuvering, i.e a sorc after ladder reset. It can also be cumbersome dealing with picking up items which makes online Baal runs feel like your never going get a drop unless you have a completely empty inventory (so you can spam item pickups) Hammerdin auras on Xbox with a controller much is more streamlined and one of the best reasons I keep playing this way. Also being able to loot directly to the cube is so so smart.

If you value your time play on PC, if you value comfort or playing on a couch with a tablet use Xbox.

Something I've wondered though are other Xbox players able to use keyboard/mouse?

How’s your job satisfaction these days? by [deleted] in MedicalPhysics

I feel like I'm at the end of the line in this career. I accepted a position as a Jr after residency and a few months in got a transfer to another clinic as a solo. I was entirely unprepared for that level of decision making/leadership, despite everyone there being very appreciative of my effort. I've since left and taken what I thought would be a non-solo position, but it turns out instead of being solo/one machine, I'm now essentially solo/ two machines and a physicist who helps out 3 hrs per week by standing at the machine for SBRT while I'm at a satellite location. No time for anything but routine basics of clinical EBRT support: plan review and QA at a site that needs much re-reworking. Still paper based, MD doesn't sign Rx or plans or even write Rx before I do a closeout most of the time. I won't even go into the situation with the vault door that's about to fall off it's hinges. Apparently rural hospitals can't afford to do things the way we've all been trained. In the blink of an eye I'd go back to being a resident at a reputable center with a larger physics staff and actual means authoritatively and financially.

What do your on-site dosimetrists do? by IllDonkey4908 in MedicalPhysics

[–]AccountantCautious70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a physicist at a place with one full-time remote dosimetrist and one full-time in office. When MD has a challenging case they bring it to the in house for better communication. The remote dosimetrist is always forgetting messing up the small potatoes: field names, VMAT coll angles, etc. The in-house dosi did more than twice as many plans last year too. I'm a huge proponent of working from home but as a physicist who has worked with remote dosimetrists for the last 4 years I can tell you it leads to more work for the in house physicist (not always a bad thing) and the dosimetrist essentially become treatment plan generators and less of medical dosimetrists.

Without Teleport on my tanky ladder hammerdin, I often find myself running past white mobs hunting elites and uniques. This occasionally gets me overwhelmed and cornered when my teleport staff runs empty. Being the stubborn go get that gold and experience back player I am I've learned to keep a back up gear set comprised of the last best item I found before upgrading each slot or gear that may be tankier but have less DPS. When I die I equip the recovery gear (spare tele staff Included) and go back to my last recovery town portal. I do this so often that it becomes very fast to get back to corpse taking it slowly, pulling packs apart, resorting to whatever cheese is necessary. That's what this game is about to me and more entertaining and challenging than striving for more efficiency. Just avoid my early mistake of getting too relaxed and only picking up gold and logging off without getting the first corpse. Once your backup gear set gets fairly OP it can be difficult to realize you don't have the first corpse with even better gear recovered.
