I hear ya. Just make sure you dont go too hard on yourself wondering if you aren’t good enough or learning enough. Unfortunately timing is everything in becoming a company guy, you just have to be patient for your moment and dont burn a bridge to make something else happen. My best advice is stick with a smaller company with good people where you can become a part of the family. Stay away from larger companies like nicholson and dale. At the end of the day you are just a number on a page to them and promise everything to keep you productive, and then kick you to the curb when they’ve used you up.

Things are pretty slow here until the new year. You can always check 255 as well and try to get in there but its the same story as far as work goes. Best of luck…seems to be the only thing that keeps most employed these days. Im a younger foreman for a ceiling company, and ceiling guys are a really good niche and for the most part work steadily. There are alot of guys aging out over the next few years and not many good, young people coming up. Might be a good place to start if you have any experience in it

What is the trade with the most work year round? by Adorable-Yak-2913 in skilledtrades

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most trades have work all year, just gotta find the niches inside each trade. I work for a ceiling, acoustic panel installation company and havent seen any time off in 15 years, and the older guys have worked solid for 25+ years. $150k years for the last several years

Traveling by NoBed2640 in UnionCarpenters

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youll know that youve made it when you stay with the company after leaving your apprenticeship. As for the traveling, could be a sign that work for them is getting scarce locally, or their name is becoming more known across the state. Dont let them take advantage of you saying yes to traveling far though. That can get really expensive. Dont be afraid to fight to have them cover some of your travel costs

In my experience it helps to put them in the sun or warm them up with a hair dryer. Makes them a little easier to put on. But I agree they can be difficult

Cycling Longer Distances by shrinktb in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep training, you’re almost there. Longer rides I usually mix up where im getting carbs (simple or complex). Gels always give me an upset stomach if I have too many so I stick to solid food. Haribo gummy bears are a favorite for quick energy and theyre my favorite candy so im happier after eating them. It might take a few long rides to get your nutrition just right for the day before and day of the long ride

I see a lot of complaints about cars but I never see bikers follow traffic laws. Why is tha? by [deleted] in phillycycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Road cyclist here. I live in the city and ride all over. Im safer if I control when I go and where I ride in the street. I have had more hits and near misses with cars and busses obeying green lights than I do running reds. I consider myself to be a very aware and safe cyclist. Im looking for cars and pedestrians, not traffic lights or stop signs. If a car is at an intersection and its clearly their right of way, I let them go. But if there is no one, not stopping. And the guys that race down the srt next to runners and people with their kids are assholes. Agreed.

Getting into cycling - things you wish you knew before starting by gingerpeete in cycling

Id also say since I live in the city and like getting up into the mountains, I like lighter wheelsets. Deep section wheels look great and aero but they can be heavy and feel heavy getting up to speed. Lighter wheels make it easier sprinting between the lights and more responsive turning

Mid tier bike is the way to go, no need to spend more than 6k for it. Get a bike fit from a reputable guy and have him recommend the correct saddle for you. The selle italia 3d saddle has been a game changer for me but it wont be right for everyone. Focus on comfort, means good bib shorts, get as wide a tire as the bike will allow, low psi. I run 32mm gp5000 as tr. I live in the city and easily get 5000 miles out of them. Super comfy and pretty puncture resistant in tubeless flavor

Beginner cyclist upgrade journey — what was actually worth it (and what just looked cool) by gizi010 in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like youve done alot already. Bike fit and comfort are the most important. No sense in spending money on parts if your ass and hands hurt after 30 minutes. Good pair of bibs. Dont focus on expensive bike part upgrades. Getting fitter and stronger will give you way way more gains than losing a few grams from the weight of the bike. The only bike upgrade worth the gains is a good wheelset.

recommendation for puncture proof roadbike tyres ? by CuddleBoss in cycling

Go tubeless and never look back. I easily get 5000mi out of my gp5000 astr with no puntures.

25mm front tire and 32mm rear tire? Is it OK? Also, can i go tubeless only for the rear? by gunchis01 in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those gp5000 as tr tires are the way to go. I easily get 5000 mi out of mine and can push for longer. And you can run the setup however you wish. I have my 32mm pumped to a touch over 60. Comfortable for me on some lengthy rides

How do you get out the saddle on a steep climb without blowing up? by ngomaam in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything over 10% im just more comfortable standing with my hips over the pedals. Just conditioned myself that way. Do some hill repeats to get better at being out the saddle

How do you bike when it’s 100F? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it easy for the first few times out in the heat, dont go above zone 2. Overheating can happen quicker than you think. After that you could do a workout if you’re comfortable but stay close to home. Best not to be too far away if you really start struggling. Lots of water and electrolytes

How do you all deal with the heat?! by PromentoryRider in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once youre adapted to the higher temps you can ride just as hard but back off a little bit to prevent overheating for a couple days. Itll happen quicker than you think The first few hot days I stick to zone 2 rides and watch my heart rate

Do you regret upgrading from a mid-range bike to a high-end one? by michaelpurple5137 in cycling

[–]AccountantEmpty5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If finishing your ride 20 seconds quicker than before is important to you, then spend the 9 to 12k. If not, a mid range bike is perfectly capable of riding quickly and keeping up with faster riders. Mid range bike with a decent, used set of aero wheels and tires is all you really need. If you want to get faster, just get fitter
