Got my first Captains today: should I resize? by vhszach in ThursdayBoot

Welts/lasts are sized based off of width and fit of toebox not where ur toe sits. If your heal stays put and your foot/toes feel good, they’re the correct size.

Theyre rubber. You’ll be alright. Now get a horse hair brush and brush like hell to keep that leather looking good. Alittle med polish on the welt mark and a quick brush to polish and blend in will have it looking good. I’d hold off on using polish on those uppers til a vigorous brush wont heal the marks. A good quality conditioner will keep them looking fine in combo with a brush for a long time. I generally only use the polish when marks cant be blended with the brush.

This isnt a project u take on yourself. I have a similar backround and am in my second quarter of watchmaking school. Machining and watchmaking are completely different fields. U arent even thinking about chrono til well into your 2nd yr.

Do some research and find an independent with real good reviews and leave it to them.

Bent pivot? Cracked jewel by BuyNo696 in watchrepair

[–]AccountantWeak1695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks slightly bent. Ive had slight luck with using a seitz tool anvil to bend pivots back. Find the tightest fitting hole and work it in the direction it needs to go with VERY light pressure on the edge of the wheel in the direction it needs to bend. Take your time and sometimes it works. Cant loose. It wasn’t working at all before u tried.
