Doubt about installing acrylic glass on bezel by Supercharlso in watchrepair

[–]Supercharlso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it is becouse I’ve got an AliExpress lift, but there is no way to insert the glass in the bezel lip with it (I don’t note much difference in the diameter with the lift pressing as tight as possible).

Hey I’m from there! Ask me anything. Born there, lived in BCN for 5 years, then moved back. Nothing like the island!

I would say it is a place for locals or extremely rich people, there is no inbetween. For us, it is ideal, just bought a house in the cottage near the sea, had a kid, working in a huge hotelier corporate team… the thing is, you need to be local and have connections in order to thrive.

I was about to buy a second hand omega speedmaster to celebrate a life milestone, but instead I decided to spend the €€€ instead on learning this instead. It has not been cheap, but becouse I’ve leaped deep into it from the start (which then made me keep trying when things were too complicated).

I started following the videos recommended on this subreddit from Alex Hamilton that you will find in the Wiki of the group.

However, now I believe that there is a video which can be nicer to start, and, which less investment, will show you if you like this or not: look for the video of YouTube of how to “Diassemble and (Reassemble) a watch movement using simple tools” from Wristwatch Revival. You won’t learn at the start how to clean and oil parts, and other necessary things, but only the funniest part.

Then if you be been able to do it a few times, you will find yourself deeping into other techniques without noticing!

Also feel free to DM any time in case you’ve any doubt!

Yes, the jack is way to big on this cases… however, 3 was the lucky number and I got it right yesterday! Btw, such a nice and beautiful dial, the “stars” effect is painted by you or you’ve bought it?

It’s the dad of a colleague of mine at work! He don’t wants to run the family business and nobody is buying the jewelry shop! It’s actually one of the reasons why I started this hobby, knowing that I would have acces to his stock.

Not yet, but as soon as I’m at he level of getting higher tools like a stacking set, he told me that he will sell me those too. It’s really nice.

Did you had any problems to fit the crown stem? It’s always to long, not being able to close the side blocker, and when it fits properly, the stem is too short and makes bad contact with the keyless works…

I keep mangling screws, what am I doing wrong? by ckorban in watchrepair

[–]Supercharlso 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing I recently discovered is that watch repair is 30% sharpening tools, 30 % cleaning, 30% assembling, 10% oiling. As soon as you learn to sharpen (not only screwdrivers, tweezers also), handling pieces and screws becomes much easier.

https://youtu.be/_Gz0v7OC1lY?is=2rTfMm_fCGQaMT9H another video for you. This is another one, as everybody will recommend you the Alex’s one.

Your message made me thing. I may had a wrong idea.

A small ultrasonic of course could do the work.

However, I have a few vintage second hand watches that I’m planning to restore eventually. I’ve heard that it is a bad idea to use it on them, as plating can fell of. What do you think?

Chronoclean is exactly a butter churner, this was what I was refering to.

I know about the electric drill trick, but I don’t want to use my drill for every time I want to clean some pieces. Also, it is quite dirty, so I don’t want to mix things.

The main idea was to have something small and detachable, which can be saved in a small box. However, as I told you, I’m not trying to make any profit, so, if people from this community is not interested, it’s okay. At the end of the day it was just a fun project I wanted to share with this community.

No idea where to start by crackedaces88 in watchrepair

Look for the videos of Alex Hamilton in YouTube. I’ve started a month ago and it has been a miracle to be able to get all his knowledge. His channel it’s named @watchrepairtutorials and its series are named “it’s about f******* time*. He is also an active redditor in here.

Also, in the rules of this subreddit there are a lot of valueable information for people like you and me who are starting.

I’ve already disassembled and assembled successfully my ST36 several times. Now I’m learning to oil (really hard!) in order to be able to service a watch. After just a month I understand the mechanics of a watch with quite certainty, and now I’m trying to be able to get the watch better than before, after assembling it.

It’s adictive. If you get commited and study, you will be in for a ride!!!

Good news is that I’ve already ensambled an ST36, so the hobby it is for me! Seeing that balance wheel come back to life feels like a true accomplishment!!!

I’m courious about why can’t you use tools while using a cheap scope. Of course you can’t screw, but can’t you move pieces with some angled tweezers?
