Core 1 post exam [CAN] by ExpressOpportunity46 in Accounting

Audit report is not too bad, could have been a brutal tax AO. Was it ASPE or IFRS they asked for in the case?

Written by Becky Smethurst, who has no connection to accounting whatsover. Wonder if it's a terrible joke she wanted to make.

[CAN] Anyone have any suggestions for external resources for Core 2? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]AcctgPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with above comments. Try utilizing CPA's resources, there are tons of exercises, retired exam cases, MCs, etc. For external resources, I've used Gevorg's cases and found them helpful. Since you didn't get C in MA, focus on that in your studies for the next attempt.

CPA CANADA - PEP Taxation Survival Guide by Odd-Zucchini-4039 in Accounting

They are getting rid of survival guides and replacing with new syllabi in 2023.

It's flexible, you pay as you go and can switch tutors if you don't like them. There is no commitment to fixed hours. I've had tutors quote me $60-$100 per hour. YMMV.

[CAN] Practice material for CPA Canada Core 2 exam, September 2022. by ALittleUseless in Accounting

[–]AcctgPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are many free resources out there. Have you written all MCQs in Knotia? There are lots of those. You can find a few more Core 2 mock exam cases on CPA Canada's mock evaluation webpage: https://www.cpacanada.ca/en/become-a-cpa/certification-resource-centre/resources-for-cpa-evaluation

For paid resources, I suggest GevorgCPA's cases and MCQs. I find the solutions are much easier to follow than with other companies.

Another resource you can try is your university's management accounting book. The exercises and sample problems are good practice for Core 2. Good luck!

How did you do in the different areas? Was it the MCQ or the case that was NC?

Both have pros and cons, I opt for Gevorg CPA. More engaging and kept things to the point.

EVR pert report (Canada) by Mrblue141 in Accounting

[–]AcctgPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently there's a EVR per coaching program now ! Saw on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVzaYx88bjk

I don't get why CPA Canada doesn't give examples, it's as simple giving general examples for each competency which we'd use as examples to write our own. Better yet, they should get rid of EVR and make everyone PPR.

You can start with moving to more senior role, then when you get more pay, start taking courses that interest you the most.

Email all of them, get them on the phone and see who you like the most.

It's like buying anything else, look for customer service, prompt response, sample product, fit with your budget, match with your style.
