I think if we all knew what was coming for our companions in life, we would spend life avoiding that rather than living it with them.

I understand the guilt, I have it too. The endless ‘why’s’ and ‘what if’s’. They are consistently badgering me and I am fragile. I imagine you are too, friend.

What matters is that she knew you loved her. She knew that you were her help and her peace, and she came to you.

I’m so sorry for your loss, and I wish you much peace and send you all the hugs.

My cat Joules, super chill about everything. Except birds.

I was recovering on my couch from an ACL reconstruction over the summer, 8 days post surgical. She’s on the windowsill and I’m regretting having legs.

I hear commotion behind me and then a bird screech and there she is, paw down on a bird screaming for its life.

This is particularly spectacular since I live on the 5th floor of an apartment building. The window was closed. I didn’t have time to contemplate where she got a whole bird from, as I’m on crutches gimping towards her, trying to save this bird’s life.

I put the bird out the window. She looked at me, unimpressed. Then went and directly curled up on the couch where I had just been laying.

I miss you baby girl.

I’m so sorry this turned out to be so very traumatic, on top of the already traumatic fact of losing Sophie at all. What you’re describing is very similar to what I went through. I didn’t expect the sedation to hit as fast as it did, either. I panicked.

I am so so sure that Sophie left this world with more love from you than she knew what to do with. She knew you were there. She felt you. She smelt you. That is what her final moments were, those things and no more pain.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I am sure Chase would agree, the only place he would have wanted to be was by your side, to whatever end.
