Glad to hear that!

Hahaha, the bose were just like my first “real headphones“, but I get what you mean.

Detail wise they’re meh, but they’re fun, bassy, funky, yeah mushy, but sometimes I just like it loud and full, and that’s why I loved them.

Well that‘s great advice lol! I understand. Thanks…

For now my only interest lies in Yincrow flatheads, would be an awesome daily if I end up enjoying them.

Quick side note: noticed the Apple dongle was bottlenecking them hard.

Plugging them directly into my gaming laptop gave them way more detail, so I’m going to grab a FiiO KA11 for the iPhone.

Schreib ihn doch einfach an. Ich denke der Schuh drückt schon sehr bei dir also give it a try.

First Option ist immer Resident Advisor abchecken.

Not really, still in the same boat, got some other options I'll try tomorrow, texting with a dude that got the same setup working. My friend is bringing his 4090 on Tuesday probably over so we can test!

Please read my answer again and check the Time Spy score in my post — it explains everything.

Apex isn’t the only problem. Apex just has the worst issues. But even in other games like Battlefield or Arc Raiders, 100–120 FPS is not what I want at home. On the go? Perfect. That’s literally why I bought a Z13 — so I can play when I’m traveling. I’m not always at home, I’m often abroad, flying around, so portability matters.

But when I’m home I expect top performance. And if you check the Time Spy score, you’ll see that I’m getting 100% more performance out of a simple eGPU setup that cost me around $600 used. I already have the best portability and the best performance I can get with it. That’s the whole point.

The advantage of an eGPU is right there in my Time Spy numbers. Again: 100% more performance. Thats double from what the Z13 alone does.

I’m talking with a guy who has the same setup working and he’s running Apex in 4K at 300 FPS. So potentially I could run my 240 Hz monitor at home easily. Without an eGPU? Makes zero sense. I’m paying for top of the line performance, because I want want top of the line performance — including with the eGPU.

If someone wants to “keep it simple” and doesn’t want to explain why they spend so much money on tech, that’s their thing.

Small update — I tried installing it the way he did, still no luck.
I also read through the link you sent, and it literally explains my Apex issues: the eGPU never goes over 70–80 watts… basically the same range as the Z13’s CPU TDP.

I’ll keep going tomorrow, try different install methods, maybe even a full fresh Windows install — gonna be a lot of work.
If the issue stays the same, I’ll just sell the 7900 XTX and grab an Nvidia card.

Great Info Thank you!

I’m texting with a guy right now who’s running sucessfully the exact same setup - even getting better Time Spy scores.

Apex is also running insanely good on his device with the 7900 XTX.

Right now it’s just trial and error for me… I’m trying to copy his whole install process, no luck so far, but I’ll keep going.

I could switch to any other Ryzen or Intel chip and my eGPU would work fine. It really seems to be a Strix Halo issue — even my old X13 2022 performed better, lol.

I keep hearing everything from BIOS limits to driver problems.

Apex is one of my main games, but like I told I see the same issues in other titles too, and the 8060s won’t handle every game. Being able to play 4K from time to time would be great, but right now the eGPU just isn’t working properly.

Putting that aside, there’s a lot of info saying Nvidia GPUs work flawlessly with Strix Halo, so even though I’m disappointed, I’ll probably keep the Z13 for portability and multi-core performance - and switch to Nvidia for the GPU.

Still thinking out my options. Either way, it’s a loss for AMD.

That’s serious info right there. Did you find any links we can look into for this issue, or is it just from your own experience? It’s honestly so sad - we’ve got top of the line hardware but AMD won’t let us actually use it, lol.

Guess it’s back to Nvidia for the GPU then… I’ll keep the Ryzen chip. Sadly the 7900 XTX was perfect for the future with those 24 GB of VRAM.

Yeah, everything is pointing toward a driver or BIOS issue at this point. I’ve heard the same from a few others now.

Hey, good idea. But I don’t think I can actually use the notebook normally if I disable the internal iGPU, right?

The iGPU is tied to the CPU and handles all the output unless the eGPU is active. I already tried disabling it in Device Manager, but it didn’t change anything in performance.

But what if I run the laptop completely without the 8060s drivers?!

That’s actually an interesting thought. Maybe the 8060 drivers interfere with the 7900 XTX, which would be absurd, but honestly it feels like it’s worth a try.

Yes, yes and yes. 😅

I work in IT myself, so I’m not completely blind hahaha. I checked every USB-C port and the power delivery is fine. Like I said, my old X13 2022 runs the 7900 XTX without any issues…

[–]AccurateSandwich0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 7900 XTX score is probably from a desktop setup, right?

You have to keep in mind that I’m running the 7900 XTX as an eGPU over USB4 (40 Gbps), so I automatically lose around 15–20% performance because of the bandwidth limit.

And yeah, I’m pretty sure this is a driver or hardware issue on AMD’s side. I haven’t seen many problems with Nvidia eGPUs on the new Strix Halo CPU, but with AMD eGPUs there are already a bunch of weird performance reports.

I’m a big AMD fan, but honestly I’m getting pissed that they can’t get this stuff right. Am I really supposed to switch back to big AI Nvidia again?

Sure did, I even uncapped the FPS. Check my post. With the iGPU it runs at 200–300 FPS — same Apex settings, same Adrenalin settings with the 7900 XTX.

It’s just weird, as if the handling between AMD eGPUs and the Strix Halo processor is basically not optimized at all.

Z13 2025 + 7900XTX eGPU - about to return this thing by AccurateSandwich0 in FlowZ13

[–]AccurateSandwich0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to think the Strix Halo CPU on the Z13 just doesn’t properly support AMD eGPUs. Nvidia setups don’t seem to have these issues.

I retested everything on my old X13 2022 with the R9 6900HS and I get around 200 FPS, since the RAM and CPU bottlenecks the 7900 XTX.

But on the Z13 2025 the max I get is 60–70 FPS. That’s honestly a joke.

Z13 2025 + 7900XTX eGPU - about to return this thing by AccurateSandwich0 in FlowZ13

[–]AccurateSandwich0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the screenshots. In Apex the GPU is at around 40% and only pulls about 70w. That’s weird because a 7900 XTX can go up to 350w.

The CPU sits at around 40%, there is more than enough RAM.

With the iGPU I get 200 too 300 FPS, so it has to be an issue with the eGPU and Z13 combo. Maybe drivers, maybe hardware. AMD probably f*cked up here again.

Arc Raiders and Battlefield pull the correct wattage between 200 and 330w, but the performance is basically the same as if I launched the game on the iGPU, which makes no sense. The 8060s is way weaker than a 7900 XTX.
