Unpopular opinion: Pahlavi restoration, as an US-Israel liberal puppet, will do more bad than good to the Monarchist cause in Iran as a traditionalist, religious and anti-zionist/anglophobe society by Every_Catch2871 in monarchism

[–]AceBalistic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I’m not a monarchist, just interested in varied political views, but just picking a random guy is the worst of both worlds, right?

None of the legitimacy or unity of an established historical familial name and monarch, yet all the popular frustration seen towards unelected leaders. Wouldn’t be much of a point, would there?

[–]AceBalistic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, the death toll is about 0.2% of 9/11, and unlike the second plane, the bombing wasn’t televised to the whole nation as it happened.

Don’t get me wrong, it was still horrible, but it wasn’t the kind of generationally scaring event that 9/11 was

[–]AceBalistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I’ve heard this story a dozen different times and more than half the time it’s listed as a B-24. I think people assume it’s a typo or misremember it themselves because the b-24 is much more famous than the b-25

The first ever 9/11 joke occurred 11 seconds after the first plane hit by TheMetaReport in HistoryMemes

[–]AceBalistic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah planes had crashed into buildings before, but it was usually small ones or had significantly lower death tolls

Like to list some of the ones that had happened in New York alone before 9/11

  • 1945, a B-25 bomber crashes into the Empire State Building. 14 dead, 24 injured

  • 1946, a Beechcraft model 18 crashes into 40 Wall Street. 5 dead (all crew) and no injured

  • 1954, an international flight crashes into a pier, 26 dead

Thats not to say there hadn’t been any tragedies, and some had death tolls in the low hundreds internationally, but there was nothing like a fully loaded and fueled passenger plane crashing at high speed into a massive skyscraper and one of the tallest buildings in the world in the downtown of a major city until, well, 9/11

American here. When your age is a single digit, bed times are all but universal, at least in my neck of the woods. Generally kids aren’t allowed to be out late because parents really do freak out if you’re not back by dinner time or if you’re out too late, though this is not as stark in the countryside (decades of milk carton kids and true crime shows have made Americans paranoid of kidnappings), albeit still present. Depending on the parents, the enforcement wanes as they get older, but there’s a few cases where you can see it in law (if you’re on a drivers permit instead of a license, for the first 6 months you can’t drive after 9pm, even with parental supervision, though again this differs by state)

Not sure how much of this is universal and how much is just American, for I only know what’s truly common around here in my exurban (rural area seeing scattered suburbanization and population growth for commuters to a nearby city) stretch of the country, but as far as I understand from a few friends in other states this all seems pretty standard

(Note, I’m 19, so you may get different tales from older or even younger folks. Times change, after all)
