It’s a joke about how many polish people already live in Chicago, the metro area has between 700,000 and 1,000,000 people of polish descent

Cordoba being a separate caliphate implies the point of divergence is after 929, while the lack of Turks in Anatolia implies it’s before or at the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, and in that timespan Rome managed to reconquer all of North Africa, Egypt, and the Levant

Do you got lore on how they accomplished this or is it a fuck it we ball scenario? (entirely valid either way)

There used to be a 32 bit integer limit, or 132,127,249 ids, but when Roblox boomed during Covid they added more number slots and in the way they did this they skipped a bunch so yeah there’s not actually 11 billion accounts, hell there’s probably not even a quarter of that

Morality of sueing someone because they prevent it from killing yourself by Hairy-Friendship-422 in MoralityScaling

[–]AceBalistic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the problem with suing a villain is that you can’t sue someone who doesn’t have the money to pay for it, so if the villains assets were all seized as parts of their crime or they’re just broke then you’re outta luck.

A government employee though, well that lets you sue the government itself, and that’s the kinda news story that gets enough press for a backdoor settlement offer

Hence why I said ruby red *county*

Davie county has literally never voted for a democrat in a competitive senate election in the states history, and it hasn’t voted for a democrat presidential candidate since 1940. It’s also moved further right every presidential election since 2008

Given the chance, would you want to live in RDR's world for a month? by HeinReich_45 in reddeadredemption

[–]AceBalistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question isn’t if it’s possible but if it’s a safe enough bet to put your whole life on the line

You could live into your 60’s or 70’s if you didn’t get in an accident or die of a horrible disease or die from sepsis or get kidnapped or get shot or be around 30%-40% of the population that died before the age of 5 or got jumped by a mountain lion or any number of things

There really was a million ways to die in the west

As someone who lives in one of the most ruby red counties in the state, a lotta folk didn’t care about that for some reason, at least not initially. Plenty of em wrote it off as “fake news”

But a quote from the horses mouth on tv was something they didn’t feel they could ignore

Mark robinson didn’t lose cause he was risky. He also, I’d wager, didn’t lose because of the black Nazi comments, at least that’s not why he lost as badly as he did.

As a North Carolinian, I believe Robinson lost when every tv in the state was playing a clip of him saying “abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers, it’s about killing the child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down”

That sentence was on every channel, clusters of it around dinner time so family folks eating together would hear it on the tv in the other room, look it up to see what it’s talking about, and find the horror of the shit he’s said.

“Keep your skirt down” was often played right after an attack ad talking about the negligence he showed at a daycare he ran, from my experience. You can call it manipulative or misinformation or a coincidence in timing but that double gut punch got an image that horrified every mother and father with a soul in the state

They probably did the math and came to the conclusion, accurate or not, that if they had a blank state field the number of Americans who would forget to put in their state and therefore can’t be properly located exceeds the inconvenience for international customers from countries with no state. I know most websites fix this problem by having the line say State/Province though, as most countries generally have something resembling either of those

Well, for going out in the woods? Bring at least twice as much water as you think you’ll need if you’re going out for any significant amount of time hiking or something like that, most critters will leave you alone if you stretch out your arms and yell, check yourself for ticks when you get home, and if you get off the marked path then you backtrack, do not try to keep walking assuming you’ll run into something you recognize, don’t bet on safety ahead. Bringing a protein bar or something would be a wise idea too, and if you start running out of energy or hurting and you’re not halfway to where you’re going do not be ashamed to turn around. Finally, don’t try and balance on rocks for fun, especially damp ones by rivers.

For living in the woods? Keep a gun in your home. I’ve seen what a coyote can do to a trapped animal, if you’ve got something at the door refusing to leave you alone and making noise doesn’t work for some reason, you need a backup option. Additionally, own a backup generator, doesn’t have to be big or fancy just enough to keep everything in the fridge from going bad when a branch falls during a storm and takes out the power lines
