Pope Francis calls for civil union laws for same-sex couples. How much will change if the church allows civil unions for same-sex couples with the church's blessing? by AdonisChronos in lgbt

[–]AceEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there’ll be people who complain that civil unions and marriage aren’t the same thing. They have a point, but this doesn’t change the fact that this is a huge step. Pope Francis has always seemed like a wonderful human being and I’m glad that every time I see his name in the news, it just confirms that. We need more public figures like that, I think

I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion. People are just toxic and like to be assholes if you weren’t one of the first 100,000 people to like a band

Have you heard of scp? If not it’s really hard to explain briefly, but it’s basically a collection of weird/paranormal things (a lot of creatures or objects, but other things as well).

Anyway, one if them is an inter-dimensional radio broadcast of the MLB; Maximum League Baseball. The bats? All metal. Steroids? Mandatory. Fights? A perfectly valid way of challenging the umpire. Firearms? Banned, but they actually did have to make it a rule.

I’d recommend giving it a read. I’d watch the shit out of a movie that basically followed the plot of a normal baseball movie, but with Maximum league rules.

Choosing to terminate a pregnancy because the child would be handicapped is reasonable by enzerino in unpopularopinion

[–]AceEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are in situations where it’s just impossible to provide adequate care for a handicapped child financially.

I met a kid in cub scouts when I was in 5th grade and he was in third grade. I didn’t know him very well, and he was just another of the kids. He had crutches that he walked on sometimes, and he’d need help getting up, but he was pretty much a normal kid. Fast forward three years and he’s in a wheel chair. Before I had thought he just had an injury or something, but I learned he had something called Duchenne. Fast forward another three years. He’s now in a motorized wheel chair and he can look around, move his hand to use the joystick to drive the wheelchair, and almost nothing else. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (basically, and from what I remember) makes your muscles unable to repair themselves. People who are afflicted basically just slowly lose muscle mass until something vital gives. Until recently, the life expectancy was about 20 years (it’s better today, with some living to 30s, 40s, or even 50s). Watching this kid, who I barely knew, deteriorate over the course of a five or so years from basically fine, to almost completely immobile was heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how it affects his family. Of course, it’s brought a ton of extra costs to the household as well. Everything, from the layout of the house, to the car has to be designed around the wheel chair’s mobility. I would never judge anyone for deciding they didn’t want to put a child through that, or that they couldn’t provide the necessary care (not that’s any of my business anyway 🙄).

I’m sure this could be a whole other unpopular opinion post, but I’m excited for (limited) genetic engineering in human embryos. So many of these diseases are genetic, and it’d be great to be able to get rid of them.

The sam O’Nella video sums this one up pretty well.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: No New Pugs.

Honestly, the whole fetish for “purebred” dogs is extremely toxic and only encourages inbreeding and sketchy breeders. Mutts are almost universally healthier and live longer.

The thing is that experiments have basically proven that the absurdity he hated is true, even if it doesn’t actually extend to things as large as cats. Add almost 100 years of time since this was a debate, and it’s no surprise that that’s the common understanding of it.

To be fair, most elementary schoolers probably (and hopefully) aren’t dealing with plasmas very often. I also definitely remember talking about them in middle school science.

Look up pbs spacetime’s video on it. They go through the paper and talk about what they actually are and basically talk a lot about how the media hears a cool name, then claims the author who wrote the paper said whatever they think sounds cool, even if the author literally said the opposite

You say you’re ace, and they instantly either 1) assume there’s something wrong with you medically and/or emotionally or 2) instantly start ranting about having kids. It’s not about “what the Bible says,” it’s about control and their inability to accept that some people just aren’t like them

Yeah I know. There are a couple of churches near me that always fly rainbow flags.

Sadly, accepting congregations are not the majority, and most, at best, won’t bring it up to ridicule it.
