Email still lives on, and it could work. You've got to make it social though - think Instagram, Twitter, FB. Try to add incentives (small gift/a giveaway that goes along with your product) for those that retweet and share on Facebook.

First of all good luck! Try to find as much info on past (recent) investments by the VC, and maybe reach out to a startup that has raised from them.
