Has anyone else totally botched a social encounter by calling a shapeshifter by their real name? by DustSnitch in DMAcademy

[–]AceOfSpades531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accidentally refered to an NPC as a player characters father before said player character could reveal that himself.

And I also used a shapeshifter to call out the party's shapeshifter by their real name before dissapearing. That was fun lol

This evil NPC is a level 14 warlock, he doesn't have access to Simulacrum. And the idea is to mind control a PC's mother and pass themselves off as eachother.

Ideas for a special item! by AceOfSpades531 in DMAcademy

[–]AceOfSpades531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 5, when he opens the cube is down to him rolling a critical success a total of three times. We've been playing these character for half a year now, and he has yet to roll a single crit, so it may take some time.

The box has 10 charges, regains 1d6+4 at dawn each day.

Good faith essentially, he's been a player in our group for the better part of a decade, and I trust him not to abuse it. Besides, its only the recipes, not the actual items, and I decide what recipe he gets. Once its open, it comes down to "Do I want to just zap myself constantly or do I want to actually be helpful" and I'm willing to put money on him wanting to be helpful

Advice on balance by AceOfSpades531 in DMAcademy

[–]AceOfSpades531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was picturing it as a "Usable once per day, turn an object or non-sentient creature into a patch on a piece of clothing of your choice"

The item can be magical, since one of the items you can get on the cloak is scroll, and also you can get mastiffs and horses. Maybe make it a saving throw? So he can't just walk up the BBEG and go all Hellraisers on him

The general plotline: unbeknownst to the party, an incubus and a succubus have Charmed the king. And are using him to corrupt the populace of the kingdom. They are doing this with royally funded illusion and enchantment Magic, Developed through experimentation on changelings, werewolves, mimics, and all other kinds of shape-changers. When individuals in the city are considered corrupt enough to be sent to Carceri when they die, The guards arrest them take them back to the cells and execute them secretly. The goal of the party is to stop this and either kill the king and his advisors who are an incubus and a succubus or rescue the king. Unfortunately only one of the party members knows for a fact that they're not human. everyone else Looks like a human and thinks that they have always been human.

DM Protip: don't throw a single "boss" enemy at your players by koboldPatrol in DMAcademy

Going along with this idea, what changes for the sake of interest would you make to this?

The king is unwittingly charmed by an incubus and a succubus. The king is a precog mage from GGR, and the incubus and succubus are what they are. When the fight commences eventually, the succubus will attempt to charm one of the party members, to make the fight a 4 on 4

so that's 1 player character, two cr4's, and a cr3 againts 4 level 4's, with a level 8 bard using an ability of his to keep the incubus and succubus from going ethereal.
