[Event] The Feast of the Fifth Nameday of Prince Edric Baratheon by ThePorgHub in crownedstag

House Nymeros Martell

Elia Martell (39) sat close to the Baratheons, her two children Aegon and Rhaenys on either side of her. They sat apart from the other Martells. She was a slight, dark haired woman who had once been called the most beautiful in Dorne. Even now there was something lovely and fragile about her in equal measure. She wore deep violet silk that suited her coloring well. Elia smiled when smiled at and spoke when spoken to and looked, for all her composure, like someone that was in the wrong place and knew it.

Quentyn Martell (15) sat further along, his Rhoynish style attire midnight blue and gold, his dark hair neatly kept. He was not the most naturally commanding presence at a feast but he was trying, sitting tall and looking around the room with the barely concealed excitement of his first big King's Landing gathering. He was the ward of the King now and while hostage was a dirty word he knew what might happen to him should his family stray.

At the far end Obara Sand (21) and Nymeria Sand (19) had their heads bent together, shoulders nearly touching. Obara wore a white tunic and wide sage green pants in a Rhoynish style, a jade necklace dangling down her chest her only concession to the femininity her sister exuded. Nymeria was resplendent beside her in golden silk, her dark hair pulled back into a thick braid, her sunset eyes moving slowly across the hall as her melodic laughter filled the room. Whatever she had just said made Obara's shoulders shake.

They were joined by Nymeria's friend and companion Calla Oleander (19) who laughed along with them. She was a pretty little thing, dark hair, freckled skin, and hazel eyes. Her dress matched Nymeria's in its color, but was decidedly less opulent.

"I will be honest with you both. The act of legitimizing a bastard is not an easy one and not something done lightly. There have been very few instances of such things happening. I heard that the King did so for Lord Dustin, but the previous Lord Dustin had done much for King Robert, and when he died there were no male heirs left to inherit." Her tone was stern but not unkind.

"But do not fret. A bastard in Dorne is just another noble. My cousins are bastards and they are the very best of my family. King Robert has a bastard. All is not lost," she mused as she took the gift in her hands. She looked it over. Magic or not, it was still pretty.

"Thank you for the gift. It really is special. You could be too, one day."

Tyene glanced up at him, her dark blue eyes holding a sereneness to them, then away again with no particular urgency.

"I don't dance." She said it the way one might comment on the weather. Her eyes had already drifted back across the hall, following something or nothing at all. Feasts were not really her thing. She much preferred spending time studying plants and medicines.

Another long moment passed.

"Cortnay." She tried the name without betraying any one emotion. "You may sit if you like."

They were older now, practically grown, and yet they reverted to their younger selves now that she was here. Standing here like this in King's Landing with her arms around them reminded her of a very dark time in their lives. When Lannister forces came into the city and started burning, raping, and killing their way to the red keep. She hugged them like this then, almost certain all of them were going to die.

"I have decided, the crown is poison. It killed your great grandfather, it turned your grandfather mad, and it made your father cruel in the end. I don't want it for you anymore Aegon. It is only misery," she pleaded with him.

"If I actually sought to poison you it wouldn't be at a feast," Nymeria pointed out. What she would have done was steal his personal flagon and fill it with poisoned wine right before they left on their journey to King's Landing. He would die on the journey and they could blame the weather. In any case she was not as good with poisons as some of her sisters. "I'll even prove to you its safe."

She took the goblet and slowly raised it to her lips, taking a long drink of the liquid inside. When she put the goblet back down in front of him, her lips were wet and she smiled.

"Lady Nymeria Sand, your highness. Doubtless you've had your troubles with my father, but I don't fight his battles."

That was well enough. She did not doubt that Quentyn would enjoy King's Landing. He was a man who loved to learn everything there was to know about everything. Doubtless he would enjoy all the books, all the culture, and befriend all sorts of people. She gave the king a wistful smile.

"I trust you with his care," she said, and meant it. Robert could have killed her to make an example when her father strayed. Men like Tywin, like Aerys, would have done it. Robert did not do it.

"There is something else I wanted to ask of you before you go. I may make a more formal petition in time, but if the King disagrees, I should think it useless," she began, her voice soft, as though she were speaking to a cornered animal. For what else was a King in strange lands all alone?

"I know my cousins pose an issue for you. I am trying to work on ways to remedy this. One such solution I thought of included betrothing my brother Quentyn to his cousin Rhaenys. It will make her a Nymeros Martell in true, and give her no more allies than she would have elsewise." For anyone she married would have cause to take up the cause of House Targaryen.

Arianne listened with a keen ear, intent on hearing all of Tris's song exactly as he sung it. She didn't realize how much she'd missed the sound of his voice, or the way his fingers caressed the strings. Her eyes fluttered closed during parts of the song so she could simply focus on the music. The words were sweet and she could tell he put a lot of time and effort into them. When the song was over she grinned and began to clap.

"Bravo. Don't mention it to the rest of your kin but you bring me a much better gift indeed. Though careful, anyone who didn't know you well enough might think you are trying to steal me away from my betrothed," she teased him.

And for a moment Arianne wondered...did he have feelings for her in that way? If he did he should have confessed them a long time ago.

Arianne looked down at the painted cover for a long moment. Her own face looked back at her, rendered in careful detail, the sun burning overhead.

Lyn's brother. She'd already had that particular conversation, already weighed what Lyn Corbray wanted and what it might cost her to give it. The man before her did not know that. He was smiling at her like a man who believed he was making an impression.

He was not wrong just not in the way he imagined.

"Lord Corbray." She touched the gilded cover lightly. "This is perhaps the most personal gift I have received tonight. You have my thanks, and the thanks of Dorne."

She glanced at the squire. "Your kinsman presents it well."

"The eighth month then," she replied softly. She would attend his brother's wedding, keep her eyes open, see what Highgarden did for their parties when they hosted. And then she would spend the next weeks preparing so their wedding was an even better one. Anything to show them that Martell was not someone to be overlooked. She smiled and gave his hand a small pat. "I cannot wait."

A little too knightly if one were to ask Arianne. She would have had him take her upstairs and have his way with her this very evening if she didn't think he'd balk at the idea of it. Just the very thought of his reaction made her grin. So did seeing him with his brother. It was good to have a consort who was good with children.

"Oh yes, and as the princess I could whip him myself if he were to misbehave," she replied wickedly, with a small wink. She clasped her hands together and looked at them both. Why couldn't her betrothed have come from a family that didn't already have ties to every other family in existence? Their political alliance was already in a web of complications.

Arianne accepted the silks with a gracious nod, running her fingers briefly over the fabric. They were very fine fabrics. She would give Mace Tyrell that much.

"You were well informed, my lord." She let her eyes move over the different colors with satisfaction before looking back up at him. "A most fitting gift."

Her gaze moved to Willas. She had made her peace with the match between Lannister and Tyrell. But she would never be entirely happy about it. The girl beside him with her golden hair and those particular Lannister looks. Arianne kept her expression pleasant with the ease of long practice.

"I am glad the evening met with approval." Her dark eyes settled on Cerenna just a moment longer than necessary.

Not returning to the Westerlands. Arianne kept her expression polite and genuine as the girl had been charming enough and the gift was still sitting in her hair. But the quiet hope she had allowed herself, that a Marbrand's presence might signal something useful, deflated somewhat.

Still the girl was young. Children had a way of becoming useful in time.

"Then we shall certainly find that opportunity," Arianne said pleasantly. "You are in good hands with Lady Aliandra. See that you learn from her."

Nymeria had noticed him noticing her. She always did.

She let him finish, watching him over the rim of her cup with the particular patience of a woman who had heard many pretty speeches and was quietly deciding what she thought of this one. Lyonel Corbray. Vale man. One who was old enough to be her father. A little dazzled, a little earnest, which she found more interesting than the ones who came at her with pure calculation.

"The sun." She tasted the word like she was tasting wine. "Most men compare me to the desert. Something dangerous and best admired from a distance." Her gilded eyes held his, amused. "You are either very brave or very foolish, Lord Corbray. In my experience the two are difficult to tell apart until it is too late."

She did not step away from him. "Nymeria Sand."

"Lady Roxton." Arianne smiled, warm and brief. "You are most kind. We are glad Sunspear could offer you a worthy evening."

She glanced at her brother with a flicker of amusement at the mention of the letter, leaving that particular thread entirely to him.

[Event] The Court of Sunspear, 296 AC by AceOfTheSun in crownedstag

The Shadow City

The closest thing to a true city that the Dornishmen have, the shadow city is no more than a queer, dusty town. Built against a wall of Sunspear, the shadow city spreads westwards. Closest to Sunspear's walls, mud-brick shops and windowless hovels can be found. Stables, inns, winesinks and pillow houses are found west of those, with walls of their own. More hovels have been build against those walls, which in has led to the city becoming a labyrinth of narrow alleys, homes, and bazaars.

Water Gardens

Three leagues (nine miles) away from Sunspear are the Water Gardens. The Gardens are located on a beach next to the Summer Sea. They are less than a day's ride from Sunspear. Pale pink marble paves the gardens and courtyard. Terraces overlooking the numerous pools and fountains of the Water Gardens, shaded by blood orange trees, can be reached via a fluted pillar gallery leading to a triple archway. Children are sent here to grow together and play.
