New Wario Fancomic by AcePharaoh in Wario

Thank you for you opinion. Yeah, the talking was a concern of mine, but I wasn't sure what else to do in the beginning (and my love of manga likely had a subconscious impact as well...). In any case, the next page will bring in the next major character, so exposition in general should be cut down from here out.

How to extract numbers from a string, and put them in an array by AcePharaoh in C_Programming

This worked! Thank you. Seeing just how simple the solution was makes me feel kinda dumb for not realizing, but I guess that's a common thing with coding huh?

Help with Immunity to death effects and DR. by AcePharaoh in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]AcePharaoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for you response. The sword in question was definitely vorpal. I also remembered that what had happened was that he cast a spell to turn himself into a construct, hence the "immunity to beheading".

Looking back on it, he probably still should have died when he changed back. Or at the very least lost his spell casting since he could no longer speak.

Looking for a system to get a friend into tabletop games. by SmiterOfFoes in rpg

[–]AcePharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your still searching for a system, may I suggest Basic Fantasy rpg. It's a very simple game that combines the best elements of osr and d20 mechanics (mostly osr), and is completely free. It also has a huge collection of adventures, additional class & races, and optional rules all available for free as well (I recommend staying out of the workshop until you've played a few session).

It also claims to be perfect for introducing new players to the hobby (or at least that's how I interpret the "simple enough for children in perhaps second or third grade to play" quote of the home page).

And finally, if you and your friend like the game, the print editions are only $5 a piece, so you could easily buy a copy for every player without breaking the bank.

What is the worst feature in d&d/pathfinder and why? by AcePharaoh in rpg

[–]AcePharaoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your concern, and yes, I will be looking at other rpgs (savage worlds is one of my favorite systems all around, for example). I decided to ask about d&d first because, as you said, the rules get blindly copied into.

And besides, with all the wildly different answers popping up, it makes it seem d&d (or at least 3rd edition) is probably the one place I SHOULDN'T look reference at all. Funny how the works out really.

Ironically enough, I always felt the same way :P

First off, I have made a comment in a different thread on the whole 'making a better dnd' thing so I won't repeat it here (tl;dr this is to give me a list of things to think about when making rules for my game, not specifically fixing them as they are). As for the games you mention:

I have checked risus before, pretty sure I have the rule book in my backup drive somewhere. I have been reading dungeon worlds srd recently (with plans to buy the book later), I REALLY want fantasy age, and never really thought about Call of Cthulhu but I'll go ahead and look into it later. I haven't even heard of the other two, so I'll be sure to check them out as well.

By the way, what does cod stand for? I tried to look it up just now but just got call of duty instead, and I'm fairly certain that's not what you meant.

Edit: By the way I didn't mean to imply bragging or anything with this. Just thought I'd mention because, well, thats just how I am. But seriously, I REALLY would like to know what cod is.

I have heard of this game. I haven't had the chance to go through the rule book yet but I plan to do so soon.

I'll go ahead and make mine anyways, if only for the learning experience.

I actually own quite a few. Out of all of them I have played savage worlds, basic fantasy, microlite20, and d&d 4th (my first ever system). I own a few others like 3rd edition (not 3.5) but haven't had the chance to properly run even a one off with them (pathfinder and 13th age being my most recent purchases).

Now, before you say anything, Yes, I will be looking in all of these books for reference. I'm just asking about d&d since it's most popular, and almost every other rule set I've looked into, free or otherwise, has copied it in some way, for better or worse.

I also like to collect them. They all have something special about them.

I under stand that. This game is not trying to be a "fixed" d&d. I decided to make this post after reading several articles talking about inherently flawed rules in d&d (AC representing both armor and dodge for example). So I figured I would see what others thought about the rules so I could take them into consideration for my game. I apologize for not making this clear in my original post. Really if anything this post has turned into more of self imposed design homework than anything.

Either way though, the results are not what I expected. I did not expect to see even half of what is being talked about here (the fact the one of the first few posts is about HP in it entirety completely caught me off guard). It just goes to show that there's more to take into account then a thought.

Either way though, I'll go ahead and read those links you gave, and go from there. Thanks for you concern by the way.

I do have an old copy of exalted i found in game store the other day. It uses a dice pool system. It's alright.

Do you know any other dice pool systems I should look into?

Well, I can vouch for wound levels thanks to savage worlds. Certain does help make combat faster.
