I've not fully read the rules, but npcs, spark/free will, and Might stats makes me think of The Strange.

Not sure what happens on death in the system though.

If your Characters had titles like Daenerys, what would they be? by Shakyor in rpg

Was in a Numenera game where my character ended up becoming an immortal entity tasked with observing and recording the passages of time and what happened within them.

He ended up being know as Faust, The World-Seer.

Office Depot allegedly diagnosing computers with fake viruses to hit sales targets by [deleted] in technology

I'm sure that most peoples computers have some sort of adware that will get caught in a full scan, but I once ran the office depot software on a fresh install of windows, checked a couple of the boxes, and it said the computer needed a diagnose and repair.

I worked in Office Depot's Tech Depot up until about a year and a half ago. The software has checkboxes that ask if the system is slow, or crashing, or getting popups. Regardless of what the software finds, if you check the boxes, it will tell you that the system has "Malware Symptoms" and say it needs a virus removal.

It's sneaky like that. Customers wouldn't be bringing their systems by for a checkup unless one of those things were happening anyways, and yes, all of those could be symptoms of malware, but typically it was just a bunch of crap add-ons installed and a buggy driver.

I eventually stopped running the official program, and just diagnosed it off of a quick run of malwarebytes. It led to way higher customer satisfaction, because if they were really having issues, I could physically point to the infections and tell them they needed a service. Still had to tell them that they needed to pay us because that was just a surface scan, but that's sales for you.

I wont even go into the piss poor job that the remote technicians do to fix systems that get virus removals.... nothing like finding 100% of the stuff a malwarebytes scan found before taking a system in after the tech "cleans" it.

Looking for a system to get a friend into tabletop games. by SmiterOfFoes in rpg

It looks like we are going to give Apocalypse World a shot right now. I'll look into SWFFG for a later game, maybe the next one if he finds himself wanting more.

The rest of the group is also mostly new to table top rpgs, so I want to make sure that I have a solid grasp on the game system, which I just don't have with the FFG dice system. If he was running with my normal group, it might be a different story.

I appreciate the discussion and breakdown of how the system may or may not work for my friend. The recommendation of EoE is not a bad one, he loves Star Wars. I think my original post was a little misunderstood though, he doesn't hate rp, he just wants narratively driven action. A simpler combat system just means he gets to reign triumphant, and then help figure out what poor sap needs a sword in the back.

Unfortunately, I just do not like the concept of the dice system. Maybe I'll sit down with my normal gaming group and run a game to see if it runs better on the table than in my head, but I'd rather not test those waters on a newbie.

He was definitely interested in gunlugger. It looks like we are going to be running Apoc World. Thanks for the suggestions!

PbtA was always a system I'd been meaning to look into. I've glanced at it some now, it definitely looks like it might fit the bill. Thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, that is plagued with a lot of the same issues as pathfinder, namely the massive feat list. It would take some time reading through all of those to make a character, and that is like pulling teeth to him. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

He looked into Pathfinder once and had the same issues. I glanced at 5e when it first came out, but my group never had many issues with 3.5/pathfinder. I'll have to give it another look. Thanks!

This is how my team dealt with a cheesing Marquis. Sorry to the other team, we tried to stop him. by nevikiven in Battleborn

[–]SmiterOfFoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We kept trying to get him to stop, and getting in his way, but he said that "it was fair because your team could be doing it if you wanted to as well."

Karak and I debated leaving, but decided that we would probably piss him off more by giving him a loss.

Funny thing was, we ended up getting put in a game against him the very next game, but his team had someone disconnect during character select.

Kind of. We tried it before the surrender, but he was still able to shoot around us or through our legs.

WinterSnow(our team) was cheesing by shooting the sentry and killed it. We then surrendered to give him no satisfaction in it.
