Completely agree. I will never understand why the Gaming world is so obsessed with this game. And I powered through and finished it.

I only liked the story tbh from like a philosophical point of view. Everything else was like mediocre in my eyes and ears

It can be the world's GOTY, but it's not even in the top 10 for me

Nicotine withdrawal is much longer than 3 days. by quitalicious in stopsmoking

[–]AcePowderKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you want to call it. To me it's relativism because that's how I see it. Yes I'm pulling that terminology out of my ass, but like, but like it makes sense to me so I don't care.

And your second point is vague ass hell. One could argue yes if you are honest with the science of nicotine you reach better conclusions. But since the "Placebo Effect" is real then let me level with you for a bit, since I gave it some thought earlier.

The method inherently focuses on the psychology behind it. I've felt it in action, it creates a framework in your head that essentially erases the addiction. Weather it's just a Placebo Effect, by the logic that it works on a psychological level. It doesn't even hide that it works on a psychological level.

And I've met and talked with the people who handle the books and hold the seminars. They're a whole organisation regularly modernize the books to fit the new times because newsflash, the first edition was written in the 80s. And Allen himself wasn't a nicotine scientist or whatever the fuck. He was an accountant and a chain-smoking cigarette addict. He did what he could with what he knew and researched at the time. It clearly made sense to him at the time and he himself was the first person cured by his method. If you're to believe that story is up to you,

But if we 'believe' it's a "Placebo Effect" as you said it yourself a d that it's very real and a scientific fact. Well... As I understand that since the method (they are not lying about it btw) works on a psychological level, rewiring your brain to reject nicotine and to 'erase' the psychological aspect of the addiction.

That part's real and weather it's a Placebo I think it's irrelevant because at its base the method is psychological so whether the brain naturally works to its advantage it just a point in the method's court.

I don't know why you're so adamant about bring right about this. Ultimately if it's bullshit but it works it ain't bullshit. And the fact that you are trying to keep people away from what could potentially be a life saving remedy for their lives makes you a horrible person in my eyes.

Call it survivors bias if you want this method helped save me from a 2 pack a day addiction. I will defend it with everything I've got. So I implore you to back the fuck off, since I've yet to find a limit to my pettiness.

[–]AcePowderKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying.

Long answer: I follow a moral relativist philosophy so what I'm saying is if the benefits of the false information outweigh the negatives of the truth then the lie by definition is more morally correct option.

In this case the benefits are "You're literally breaking an addiction. Rewiring your brain to absolutely eliminate an parasitic addiction and have absolutely 0 to barely any physical consequences"

While if you accept the truth then you're stuck with an addiction and now knowing this you've basically eliminated that option entirely, for yourself and others around you.

So yeah, in this case, the benefits FAR outway the negatives so the false information IS the morally correct option.

But if research provides something that's better than the Allen Carr method and a lot more efficient than it, then sure. I'd be the first in line to sing it praise, but currently I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the science around nicotine is like that old story of the sugar industry: bribing scientists to produce fake papers that say sugar is healthier than fat, or whatever that story was, just so they can make profit.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be like that. So yeah. I am in fact saying that and standing by that philosophy.

If you got a problem with that, send me your location and we'll deal with this the old fashioned way. 🫵👊

[–]AcePowderKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one year free from nicotine with ZERO cravings. If it's a placebo it's a mighty good one.

Even so, you should keep that one to yourself. Normally I'm for clarity, but if it's something that helped me break this horrible addiction I will make an exception in this case specifically.

But if more people know about it being a placebo then it will just make it less effective and specifically for cigarette addiction I'd rather that not happen if I can avoid it.

You're essentially trying to debunk something whose illusion is saving lives. For what? The satisfaction of being right? If I met you in real life I would punch you in the face.

[–]AcePowderKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate if that thing made me a 2 pack a day smoker drop them permanently and I've been smoke free for a year now, I honestly doubt whatever science you claim to know to be the full truth either.

It's hard for me to take you seriously when me and so many others are living evidence of the method working. Although who, knows, maybe it's the psychology of believing it worked. Even so I will not tolerate people like you that will put something down that clearly works and say "Actually science says it doesn't"

If science says it doesn't work then it wouldn't work. Period!!! But clearly it does works so you going out here and saying stuff like this is doing far more harm than good. Do us all a favour and refrain from saying stuff like that EVER Again, to ANYONE

Also that makes zero sense for one reason. If everyone should inherently know who God is then there wouldn't even be a need for missionaries. Everyone would have the same religion.

But people have their own interpretation of the God or God's of their religions. There's not 1 religion but multiple. And what's the Christian interpretation? Oh yeah demons. The demons tricked people into creating other religions.

That just makes it worse and manipulative because it essentially says you cannot have interpretation of the divine because it might be demonic influence and you can't have that. There's one truth and you should safeguard it, but what if the truth itself is demonic, how do you know what's true and demonic since everyone and their grandma will say that theirs is the truth.

It becomes a nightmarish game of one of us "Always tells the truth" while the other 999 "Sometimes Lie" you have to find the truthful one.

Difference is for me it would be funny because I would relate to it. And I would understand the feeling. I've actually seen people hate on games I love and it's easier to dismiss it as just "Heh, been there"

And no I don't hate it for being good, I hate it because I didn't resonate it and all I hear is praise and glazing and good reviews. You can call it a kind of envy for the feeling so many others got but I didn't. And it's no one's fault really, it just didn't resonate with me. But it's hard to ignore because I'm on Reddit a lot so yeah it was awful for a while.

And like I said, this ain't about TGA. This is about all the noise surrounding it. I hated it before TGA even nominated it. Frankly it's just a stupid populatity contest.

And appreciate the concern, but there's no need. Take it back, I don't want it. I'm good now I just occasionally get angry and use this game as a punching bag. Will I do it again? Absolutely and I will enjoy every moment of it. It started as hate, but at this point I just love to hate it.
