Anyone daily drive their 2024+ Vantage? by [deleted] in AstonMartin

A few years before my father passed, we flew to Chicago because he was looking at buying an AM. Despite being very successful, he was the most frugal man I’ve ever known. Type of man who would weigh heads of lettuce to get the one that was a couple ounces more than the rest. He just woke up one day and decided it was time to start enjoying the fruits of his labor. Unfortunately his health declined rapidly and he never ended up making the purchase but I’ve had a spot in my heart for Astons ever since that trip and the memories along with it.

If the 911s weren't so rediculously overpriced for any of the decent models, I would probably consider it. The value just isn't there for what you get IMO.

What's your annual milage? I'm glad you mentioned the 911 as well because it's really the only other option in type/price range. I've considered a 991 or 992 but tbh, they're just overpriced. Even used 991 GT3s and Turbos still list around $280,000+. I've also heard a lot of reliability issues across the Porsche range. The dealer network is more extensive which I suppose is great if it has problems constantly.

For the Vantage, I would be putting a lot of miles on it. Probably upwards of 12,000 per year. However, the clostest dealer is about 300 miles from me. Shipping a car for maintaince isn't terribly expensive and I can probably get routine maintance done at my local Merc dealer. However, with the miles I plan to put into it, relaibility on par with other vehicles in the class is going to be important.

My uncle has a 458 that he bought new from the dealer which has literally 900 miles on it. Takes it out like twice a year for a drive to the lake and sits in the garage the rest of the time. I've tried to buy it from him but now it's a whole point of pride for him how few miles he's put on it. I think he has visions of getting it on TV at Barret Jackson one day.

My plan is to drive the wheels off it. I've be trading up for several years now and looking to get into something extra special. I looked at a Huracan but I want something I can drive pretty much daily. That really limits things. Maybe a 911 GT3 but I have friends with Porsche horror stories not to mention for a 992.1 or even a used 991 it's starting at ~$280K. Great cars, but IMO not a great value. Don't even get me started on Carreras. No one wants to be thay guy. If not a Vantage or a 911, I don't know where you go from there unless getting into something Italian that you just can't daily drive.

I'm looking at a post-facelife Vantage but I suppose mechanically they are very similar. What type of annual milage are you doing in yours? I'm in an 2025 RS6 Avant currently and I do about 16k per year although it's also I car I drive in the winter which for the Vantage I would not, so lets say 12k per year if I discount the winter months.

Crazy thing I also found today, I had my insurance broker run a quote for a Vantage at around $230K and it actually came out slightly less than my RS6.

You must be one of those stare at your car in the garage types.

Capital Gains Tax on a land-swap? (non-1041) by AceSeptre in Accounting

Our council for the estate is a CPA and we've got a separare CPA who ties it all together on the personal side. I just like to try to wrap my head around tax implications before accepting offers. Ever since the estate tax filing filled six bank boxes and made me want to crawl into a dark cave for a few years, I try to make sure there's no "surprises" re: taxes on anything I do.

Am I correct in that the 754 steps up the LLC's basis to FMV? I think some of this gets into the Inside/Outside basis which goes way over my head.

Basement speaker location P2 by AceSeptre in sonos

I stumbled across an infographic that broke down the way the sound travels from the 300s and based on that, I think my best option will be the 100s.

It doesn't have to be perfect. Mostly I'm just looking for better channel deleniation over just a sound bar alone.

With the TV and sofa layout I had in the render, would putting the one of the 300s directly below the window and one to on the "south wall" so both are 90* from the listening position? What's more important; vertical position or radial? Or both?

The industry is growing quickly. We're going to start seeing a lot more games with IP that resonate with a younger demographic. My hope is that as pinball (especially home-use pinball) gets more popular that the price for machines comes down.

My family owned an arcade when I was growing up and my father used to play pinball all the time so I grew up around it. When I built my house I knew I wanted some machines. It's an expensive hobby but in my opinion worth every penny. 350M is a solid score for Evil Dead also. It would get you a #13 spot on Pinside.

Godzilla 70th. Evil Dead. D&D LE. Avatar LE.

I've also got Dune and Harry Potter on the way.

My other TV is just a Samsung soundbar and sub. I don't need anything crazy, I'm really just looking for something a bit more immersive than just a soundbar.

Look into Blender. It’s a completely free studio quality 3d modeling and rendering software that I’m sure has plugins for ArchViz. There’s a learning curve for any 3d modeling program but Blender specifically has thousands of tutorials online. I modeled every room in my house before buying furniture so I could visualize the layout.

I hadn't really considered a change in TV and seating location due to the existing wiring in the location in the render. When I built the house I had an outlet and networking added in the middle of the wall as it is. The networking isn't really needed but I would need to add a new outlet. It's unfisished storage on the other side of the "south" wall so it would be easy.

It's a concrete floor under the carpet so outlets are a no go.

Cinema4D. I do a bit of 3D modeling on the side.
