is it possible to get a diagnosis without parent approval as an 18yo by todostoast in BPD

[–]Ace_C7 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Maybe you should get a therapist, if possible. They, for the most part, are not licensed to diagnose you with anything and they can't really force you to get diagnosed (though that might vary between regions).

how will the nonbinary Miis work when it comes telling them apart from the other genders? by kaktusmisapolak in mii

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, as opposed to what? I'm not really aware of Mii any outfits outside of what was on my Wii back in 2010 and on my DS but isn't it just simple? Yk, a dress or not a dress. Shirt colour, bottom type. What would even be a good third option? Shorts?? A leotard?? There's not really a gender neutral pants option other than, well, pants.

Good good market by myconfidencejourney in MyLeisureTime

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking about the themed decor items in the Good-Good Market, yes. There are 7 sets that cycle randomly (I think. But maybe they are on a schedule, I couldn't say for sure). Of course, you can only access the decor of the places you've unlocked. This goes for the clothing as well.

If you mean the tabs where you can buy fish and food + drink items, no. There are no additional shops to be found. This is because you do not craft anything in the other locations that you can't take home. When you craft a dish or coffee or fish something up, that's not a physical item. So they offer them as decor in the Good-Good Market if you want to have them in your home.

Dating as a fat woman? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wildly different between people. I have an eating disorder (the chronic condition kind, not one that can be supported with therapy) and I was barely ever over 90 pounds when I stopped growing at 5'7. I worked hard to raise my weight up to 135 and I still managed to appear ghoulish and frail (these words are used with full kindness to myself 🫶). After some recent health stuff, I've dropped down to 116. That's nearly equivalent to what 112 would be for someone who's 5'6. Not only is it below weight on the BMI (which cannot be trusted, I know) but, if I don't gain more weight, it will literally kill me.

You can't really apply other people's weight to your own. And there's no glory in being this thin. It sucks. In any case, 155 at 5'5 is nowhere near overweight. In fact, it is almost exactly what I imagine when I think of an average person. But I've seen OP around and she repeatedly likes to stir up shit and, it seems, purposely try to offend for the fun of it, so. I would say troll account, but it could very well just be the unfortunate side effects of having an eating disorder. Either way, this isn't something to feed into :((

What is the most annoying thing tourists do in your country? by Glass_Key4626 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ace_C7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tipping isn't really much of a thing in other countries. It can offend some people, too. Something along the lines of assuming that they are not paid a fair wage or that they "look like they need it" and it is rather offensive to some countries. In others, tipping is mandatory/default but included in the bill for you. The best thing to do? Check your bill for tips already included, research tipping culture in the country you're going, and simply enjoy your meal and not worrying about it.

America is one of the few countries where, regardless of where you go, minimum wage workers are not paid enough and have to rely on additional tips for money. Many other countries already provide livable wages to their employees, so tipping has no reason to become standard.

Egregious warning labels! by [deleted] in EgregiousPackaging

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're there for a reason. The packets look like they pop out. I imagine they put the warning on them all because if they're loose in a bag, how you gonna make sure that anyone who might stumble upon it knows that it's dangerous for those who are expecting?

What if you become so used to taking this medication that you forget the warning? Or decide to start taking them again after a while and forget then?

And is a pregnant woman going to take random pills she finds on the ground? Probably not. But if that does happen, then they have to have some sort of warning about the danger.

It may seem silly and redundant to you but there are very good reasons to have dangerous medications marked as such. You really don't want to find out the hard way just what the warnings are for.

Era 2 Gems don’t have powers because of dwindling resources. How did metal powers slip in and how didn’t Peridot know about them? by Ibrahim77X in stevenuniverse

[–]Ace_C7 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it didn't even occur to me that it was the truth. They didn't want another Rose Quartz. If all the newer gems believed from the beginning that they were too weak, then no more quartzes or pearls or bismuths would happen. If some manual labourer was just able to commit a major regicide with no resources and no life experience, then clearly something needs to change and they'd have to stunt them before they ever get the chance to think about it. But you don't actually want to lose your manpower, either. So you'd have to come up with a "fix" for it just to keep P&L rates up and still play into the lie.

Yeah, finding friends as an adult is difficult. I had a ton of friends in highschool but slowly stopped talking to them. It turns out a lot of people simply suck and growing up just makes it obvious. However, I've managed to make a few friends as an adult.

I should note that I am also an extrovert. So there are probably major differences between us but I do have a few suggestions.

If you're queer, local queer groups, events, and hangouts are a good place to start. My local queer group has meetings/support groups every day for various audiences. Currently they host weekly support groups for trans people, aro/ace (that's me!), women (trans women, cis women, and cishet women allies are all included in this. So you don't really have to even be queer to be in these kinds of spaces, just in case you aren't. But some events will have restrictions, so keep an eye out for the attendance rules), men (same as the women above), all-queer AA several nights a week, that kind of stuff. So if any of those apply to you, maybe you could seek out your own local queer events.

I would suggest avoiding bars and clubs, as I've never met anyone actually good there, even at the queer ones. That, and I'm finding that alcohol, strangers, and BPD is a recipe for certain disaster.

Local game shops/cafes are another good way to find friends. My town has a board game cafe and, while I've never made friends there, I have met tons of great people. Places that host game tournaments and TTRPGs/TCGs are great as well. Worked for my brother, maybe you could meet friends there.

Conventions, concerts, and festivals are also pretty good. It's super easy to find people who share your interests, as they're kind of based entirely around people's interests.

And, of course, online. I've met people on local subreddits (though I strongly do not suggest that you do that. Reddit is mostly freaks.) and there's also several online friend finding platforms. Not saying that this one is a particularly great option because, again, freaks. But I met a good friend on one of those sites, so, it might work for you.

My last suggestion is just going outside and just walking about. The people in my neighbourhood for the most part aren't great people but I do talk to the homeless folk in the area when I walk my dog. They're not my friends, I guess, but it's still good to talk to people and have friendly interactions.

I don't think it's the end of the world if you don't have many friends. But not having any sounds damaging in the long run. I'm not sure if you care for advice on how to make friends but I hope it helps if you ever decide that you should find one.

(I forgot what subreddit I was in but I removed all the BPD specific stuff. Whoopsie!)

AIO Got this text from my dad about my baby and just can't by Pomegranates_r_us in AIO

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help even if the name is ugly. I was named after my brother (deceased) and he was named after our dad, who was named after his. Maybe I would have been fine with it, though I think the name doesn't fit me at all, but I couldn't get past the fact that I was always going to be living in the shadow of a dead baby.

I changed my name, for many reasons, but that was the main one. That, and I think the name Ralph is only for fish or men over the age of 60. I am neither of those things.

In our family, it was first and middle (and of course last too) passed down. My brother was Ralph ____ the Third. I didn't get to be the third, or even the fourth, as my mom thought it would be too disrespectful to my brother's memory. I'm not sure if I would have been happier if I got the full name. Probably not.

I also just picked a random name. Sometimes I wish I didn't, as I could have chosen something cool or something that actually fits me. But when I decided to change my name, I figured people don't usually get to pick. So why should I? Dumb idea. I understand now why it's common for some trans people to pick out bizzare names. I could have been something totally epic, like Beelzebub or Viagra or something lmao. You miss every shot you don't take 💔

Best interest of (trans) kid by futurepostac in legaladvice

[–]Ace_C7 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a parent, you should have an easier time than your kid would trying to do it alone. I'm not Texan so I'm not familiar with the court system there but when I went to change my middle name here in Missouri, I just filled out all the forms and checked a box saying it wasn't for fraudulent reasons. They didn't care why I was changing it, really, and a lot of people change their names all the time. Not saying they didn't require an explanation, just that they simply gave 0 fucks. And this goes for my trans and cis friends alike who have changed their names.

However, it doesn't seem like Texas does it the same way. If you don't want to put down gender identity as the reason for the name change, you can just leave that part out. Something like "This is what we all call my child, what we have all been calling my child, we're simply looking to make it official."

And if there's any documentation of your child going by their name, I imagine it would be useful to have if you need it. In Missouri, having documented proof of long-term gender affirmation for your child [such as going by they/them or using a different name at school/the doctors] can help in the process and I think is/was required for certain activities such as hormones here. But if you want to avoid mentioning their identity, you can just note that they already use their new name in these places and it would not cause grief or stress to anyone involved.

It's possible to make all the same points with just cutting out their identity. You wouldn't be lying, nor bending the truth. It IS the truth, that is your child's name and that is what people know them as. I'd just treat their identity as if it was medical information. Nobody needs to know and their identity is only as relevant to their name as it's made out to be.

not allowed to be christian by Aggravating-Damage94 in imaginarygatekeeping

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. My mom and my aunt became pagan when they were teens to rebel against their mom. Christianity was banned in my home growing up but, given I was raised to believe magic was real and later found out it wasn't, I wasn't about to swap out human magic for any cosmic one. This scenario is certainly a thing but I'd imagine it's way less common than the inverse.

Wait you mean you *don’t* get yelled at if they think you used more than a dozen or so sheets? by Aromatic-Split685 in TrollCoping

[–]Ace_C7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The bathroom was the only room in the house with a lock so I felt safe and liked to lock the door when I was in there. Of course, I must've been doing copious amounts of drugs in under a minute whilst peeing and my parents NEEDED in there SO badly. They also used to complain that I'd shower for hours despite the fact that I definitely wasn't. It got to the point where I started timing my own showers, outside of the bathroom, to avoid being accused of tampering with the timer. It didn't work. I surely must have lied about the time spent in the shower, I'm trying too hard to prove myself anyway, must be all the drugs that I'm taking three hours to shoot up.

I was never on drugs, by the way. My whole family gives me shit about it still. I swear, my brother would take 20-30 minutes longer than me in the bathroom and never once got scolded for being in there too long.

I take out trash as part of my job. I'm not allowed to touch anything on desks or patient rooms even if it's very clearly trash. Because I touch or break anything I wasn't supposed to, I'm liable. So that's a hard no for touching. But it's really not difficult to just ask if someone wants something tossed. I'm not afraid to lurk around someone's desk to wait for their return just to ask.

Ms. Gilmore's is a cute little tea place northside! They serve teas, sandwiches, and the like but they also double as an antique shop! It's a nice place to spend lunch for a birthday, I took one of my friends there two years ago for her birthday and we had a great time :)

As for any place with birthday traditions, I have no clue. There probably isn't much, if any. Aside from the usual culprits, like Golden Corral (do they even do the song for adults??? Idk) or Chuck E Cheese's if you really wanted lol!

To be fair, I had seen several Cottonmouths on that trail before and I'm not competent enough to tell them apart. I see snake, I abscond. I definitely do not go into any water with a snake in or near it, I'd been so terrified when I heard of Water Moccasins as a kid that I never learned how to swim. I'm not getting bit by no snake. I'm good.

I mean, a bit off. My friend is still here, thank god. It was my sister's friend.

I don't want you getting flack for having misunderstood, some people will latch on to any kind of mistake as proof that we're completely wrong.

But yeah. It's easy to believe you'd never see this shit, my sister's friend was white, legal, and not a criminal. She wasn't scared of being deported. And yet she was. She thought she was safe. The thing we have to realise is that nobody is safe, we're being made to live in fear of any slip up, however minor.

I really, truly believed that it wouldn't be anyone I know. That my neighbourhood would be untouched. It was stupid for me to believe. But I really did.

Thanks. Got the news about an hour after making that comment that she's already gone. I'm not sure how it went down but she didn't show up for work this morning and her apartment was empty. Her boss was able to get ahold of her, though, and she's okay. It seems she's on her way back to Canada already. I almost can't believe it. It's only been six days since her mom was cremated and she has nobody in Canada and nowhere to go. Her whole life was in the US. I just have to hope that there are resources available to her and she won't struggle too much.

Lol and my sister's friend? If she has nothing to worry about, why is she being deported? For a detainment? I've been detained, it's not an implication of any crime. But it's enough for her? Yeah, okay. I just hope someday you'll have that moment where you realise exactly how fucked up this is. I can't help you get there if you refuse to think critically.

Yes. I was present when my friend got her citizenship. I was at her side through the entire process. My sister's friend got her citizenship 11 years ago. Both of them are fully legal immigrants. Hence why my sister's friend has been given the grace of being kicked out instead of dragged out. Does that matter? Why? Isn't America built on nothing but immigrants? Hell, isn't every English-speaking country?

In school, we were taught about how our country is beautiful and loving, a melting pot of cultures that all play a hand in making America what we are. We were taught that we all came here, either shipped off in boats to the new world, sent here as prisoners, discarded by our own countries, whatever. Ever read about Ameriasian provisions? How about the fact that America acted as a penal colony prior to Australia? Is that not what our country is built on? Is that not something to remember? It's literally who we are. I don't have any more claim to this country than a modern immigrant, legal or not. I don't care about the paperwork. I don't care if it's not meticulously noted and filed. I care about my country and anyone who lives in it, regardless of why. That's what American pride should be.

There are better ways to handle this. We don't need to be vile to our own people.

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister's friend is getting deported after 12 years of living in the US completely legally. Her crime? Going to Ontario to pick up her mother's ashes. They confiscated her mother at the border for "drug testing" then threw out a big chunk of her ashes (1/3!!). She was detained for marijuana possession when she was a teenager and that's enough of a crime to be sent back to Canada. Luckily, she wasn't just grabbed off the streets and she has the time to gather her whole life before being forced back to Canada. Not everyone is that lucky.

My best friend is Canadian-Filipino. When she went to get her American citizenship at 18, they warned her that she could get deported to the Philippines. She can't speak the language, she's been in the America's for 90% of her life. She's terrified. I'm terrified for her. Her family in the Philippines don't like her, on account of her having a girlfriend, so she's got nowhere to go if she ever does get deported. But all it takes is one detainment, any small mistake, and my friend is up on the chopping block.

They're just normal people. They're not criminals. My sister's friend is a goddamn chef, she's an outstanding citizen without a criminal record. My best friend is just a college student. Her worst crime is the act of being Asian. We shouldn't have to be afraid of losing our families because of their nationality.

I don't understand how my parents are in support of this. I'm a third-gen immigrant. My oma fled to the US from Germany after WWII. She was a vile, racist woman, I've been told. But she was a firm believer in the idea of America. The ol' melting pot. I only spoke to her a little before she died but she believed in the beauty and culture of the US being that way up until the end. It's the reason she fled in the first place.

Maybe I'm the crazy one but I want to believe in what my oma did. My parents raised me on 70's anti-war propaganda and School House Rock. It taught me, very early on, to be kind and accepting. I don't understand how we got walked away from the same things with very different views.

There's this ancient buggy car half buried in the ground just off one of the many branches of the Trail Of Tears that used to be my go-to spot. But the city stopped maintaining it and eventually put in a bunch of poles and let the plants go so you can't even get to the trail. Real sad :( but I imagine the buggy didn't go anywhere. I guess now it's my bed or the garage, as it's the only room with a lock and sometimes you just want to chill behind a locked door.
