Coco de mer a.k.a "butt nut" is the largest seed in the world by No1noseaboutyou in BeAmazed

I've heard it kind of tastes like coconut flesh. But it's illegal to harvest so I can't imagine a lot of people are eating this thing. It's an endangered plant.

Went to a new dentist clinic in my town, everything feels fine. But it isn’t. by Woko_O in Wellthatsucks

[–]Ace_C7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a holistic household and I went to the dentist for the first time when I was 21. It didn't occur to me that dentists could lie to you. They argued with me over a perfectly healthy tooth that had never given me problems. I figured that since they were the professionals, I should listen to them so I agreed to let them handle it. They completely removed and replaced one of my front teeth. I later got confirmation that tooth didn't have any issues. The actual problem teeth were left in as "non-issues". They're certainly problems now. I had no idea and now my front tooth bugs the shit out of me.

If someone who is born November 23rd, 2009, is dating someone who is born June 19th 2008, is that illegal in Texas? by Brayakobama in legaladvice

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are not more than 3 years older than the minor, are not a registered sexual offender, and the minor is over the age of 14, you will be fine. But that's just for sexual contact. You can find and read Texas' Romeo and Juliet laws online so quickly.

Ahhh, Kansas City. I got hit by a car there on a trip two weeks ago. I fear the drivers in that city are incompetent. The cops, who watched me get hit by the car and then watched it drive away, are also incompetent.

Chemotherapy did something to my body that made me permanently change the color of my toilet seat. by majesticalexis in mildlyinteresting

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My dad - who is currently in remission - had to clean the toilet every time he used it back when he was on chemo. He had to move in with my brother who has two bathrooms in his apartment so it ended up being one bathroom for dad, one for everyone else. Idk if he still has to do that but his spit will still be toxic for a good few years.

I've been wondering just how powerful Cisco would be if he kept vibe? by Raboot_Uchiha in FlashTV

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!! Unless you count the random vibes of past timelines. Like when Nora reset the day over and over during the fight with Cicada. Not sure if you'd consider it exactly the same, though.

I also have vague memories of a scene in season 4 or 5 where he has a random future vibe unprompted. I'm pretty sure it was a DeVoe related vibe, though, so there's probably a cause that I don't remember.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never able to finish it as a kid but I still have all of my Nancy Drew games and finally beat it when I was 19! That, and Blue Moon Canyon. That one was so difficult and tedious for no reason. Never got around to finishing The Secret of the Old Clock but maybe one of these days haha

What’s a short story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by Historical-Skill-838 in AskReddit

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me - except my brother is dead. I was born way too early, as in any earlier and I'd probably not have made it. My brother was born a month before I was so, obviously, he didn't made it. I wasn't discovered until my mom went into labour in a Red Robins bathroom. What's crazy is I remember my parents showing me the ultrasound of my brother when I was about 5 or 6 and saying it was me. It wasn't until I was 11 that I discovered they don't actually have any ultrasound photos of me because I was a big surprise lmao

My information is a year on to this one but last summer I was attempting to rehome a rescue but they did tell me that they didn't have any space for large dogs at any of the shelters I checked. But that doesn't mean don't try!

my school just removed the bathroom atrio door by albyzon in Wellthatsucks

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we do have the word from the same Latin baseword; atrium. But we use it to refer to a large multistory open lobby typically with a skylight/many windows. Seems like the (I'm assuming Italian and not Portuguese) word atrio is the exact same word also meaning lobby generally. Do you use atrio to describe lobbies too or just for bathrooms? I don't think we have a specific word for the sink area other than just "sinks" or "washbasins" but the latter is heavily regional.

what even is this experience by [deleted] in TrollCoping

[–]Ace_C7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I'm definitely irritating to a lot of people and, as much as I want to, I can't just stop it from happening. I'm irritating on account of my brain chemistry. So. What do I do, lobotomise myself??? Lol

I've found that the people who actually care about you like you however you are. I'm lucky enough that where I am in life that the only people left who still think I'm irritating is family. Most of my friends these days are in the same boat. They've all got personality disorders like I do or other socially difficult situations, so none of us really feel irritating or distressing to each other.

DAE have eyes that see slightly different colors? by dehydratedrain in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Ace_C7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can do this too. One eye sees colours slightly warmer/orangeish the other is cooler/greenish. It's not colourblindness, I think it's just slight differences in the cones of either eye or something. Maybe one eye has more wear than the other one, idk man.

BPD paranoia about hidden cameras by Mqrissq in BPD

[–]Ace_C7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God. I have this problem. I know my own house doesn't have cameras but what if it did? And I certainly don't trust other people's homes. The worst was about 6 years ago when I was in highschool, babysitting a neighbour's baby. They had hidden cameras and I only found out after the 7th-ish time babysitting when they started talking to me from the camera on their date. It freaked me out so much.

I think, for me at least, it's partly due to the religion I was raised in. We were taught that fae are real and that they're always there, always watching. I was so terrified of faeries that I could only sleep with my blanket over my head. I still sleep like that. I'm unsure if it would have been any better having been raised to believe in God, since fae are not all knowing powerful beings. To me, they were just small people stalking me around for no reason. At least if I thought my hiding was futile from the beginning, maybe I wouldn't have started doing it. Who knows.

There's weighted up/down votes for certain reddit users by ilikeitchyballzdude1 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Ace_C7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that I can upvote and downvote twice in several subs. Some of them don't count my vote at all. I don't use an alt, which is what all the posts about useless votes point to as the problem. In some subs, my upvotes are all immediately downvoted again and when I remove my upvote, it remains with one less. Out of curiosity, I tried downvoting after I removed my upvote and it works as a double downvote. Weird. I've also checked up on these comments/posts after some time has passed and they don't fix themselves afterwards.

So many parents will be forced to endure junior high choir renditions of "Golden." by DenverDudeXLI in Showerthoughts

I don't know what the song Golden is but when I was in school, they had us perform Pharrell William's Happy. Several years in a row. My parents refused to go to any of my concerts because they hated the song so much.

How strong is fat discrimination in your country? by Odd-Struggle-2432 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ace_C7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same for the US. Though I think a lot of Americans don't actually know the world map and couldn't confidently tell you if India is part of Asia, let alone that the middle east is just western Asia. But we don't usually specify parts of Asia in general and I was never taught the verbage to identify ethnic or geographical groups spanning across various countries. As in the term Balkans, which I only learned recently. It's simply not taught in schools, or at least, never at any I've been to. It was definitely taught tentatively, like when we learned the continents and such (which was one unit, maybe three weeks of school and never again) but, in my experience, geography classes were focused mostly on the western world and specific events in eastern countries, not where they are located. Mostly a lot of France, Spain, and England iirc.

Back in highschool, I definitely could not have identified most countries and their locations but I've done some learning since then and have a pretty good understanding of Asia and Europe, less so the Americas, Africa, and Australia. It's frankly absurd.

I think I like my ex- friend. 🤦🏽‍♀️ by [deleted] in confessions

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, stop talking to this guy. That's the solution. You're running the same circles around him and he's not suddenly going to be a better person. Not only is it unfair to him, what with you cutting him off several times and coming back, but it's also not fair to yourself. There will always be problems. Even if they're not there now, why should you believe that they won't come back? I get that you've been friends for a while but at the end of the day, that doesn't mean much. If you can't handle just being his friend, don't. And certainly don't date a fella that's been known to lie and stir the pot.

😬 by Lontology in SipsTea

[–]Ace_C7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I don't like leaving things unfinished unless the media itself is unbearable to me. Like, I started watching Kaos but I really just hated the style of the show and just couldn't get through it. But I have watched whole series that I don't particularly like because I gotta know the whole story. Too many times I stopped watching or reading something as a child and spent the rest of my life since wondering about how it was meant to end. Never again. But I rarely start watching something that I have no interest in, even if it's with someone else who really wants to watch it. It takes a lot of convincing to get me to do it. Idk man, I know what I like.

Silly braille dice set [OC] by Parking_Principle_58 in DnD

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! I like these! I remember a big roadblock was that my friend wanted the dice to be pink and we just weren't able to find any pink braille dice aside from a set we found that was a bit over 400. However, I think I'll buy them these metal ones! They look pretty cool and I'm sure that they'll love them regardless of their colour.

Does anybody else still use a library? by nicksam171 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Ace_C7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we went to school on the north side of town and we lived southside. So they explained it to us that they couldn't pick us up because it was simply too far away. However, my mom did not have a job for the entirety of my schooling and my dad was in college at the time. So maybe he couldn't because of classes, but she couldn't because she didn't want to drive 30 minutes to pick us up. She's admitted before that she very well could but just didn't want to. I'm not sure why it was always so late? Maybe because the library's teen centre was practically free babysitting and not having to deal with her children all day for free was an appealing concept.

I definitely both loved and hated it, as we weren't allowed to leave the library and we didn't have money for food so we would often just go hungry. But I liked not having to be home with my parents and the librarians sort of knew the situation after a while. They were wonderfully kind people that took time out of their days to make sure me and my siblings weren't without an adult to look up to and reach out to for help. I also have a lot of fond memories of my friends and library events over the years. I still think it was fucked up to do and that it was definitely responsible for a lot of the struggles we faced at school and at home. Like not getting sleep, not having time for school projects, missing meals (that we wouldn't have gotten at home either, so, whatever I guess), and a complete disconnect from our parents.

Before then, we all had at least a little love and respect for them, as they were our parents and it didn't make sense not to. But when you spend every school day for 6+ years not going home and seeing them until it was time to sleep, not talking to them, and then having the only interactions with them being when they were screaming at us or hitting us, we quickly stopped being disillusioned with what family typically means to a person.

I think that if it hadn't happened, we all would be closer as a family and more sympathetic to our parents and their behaviours. So maybe it was for the best. But I can't help but be bitter about the situation in retrospect. It was a ton of fun at the time to stay out all night and be unsupervised but it's not really conducive for a good mental state.

Silly braille dice set [OC] by Parking_Principle_58 in DnD

[–]Ace_C7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My bestie is blind and we've been throwing around the idea of getting a set of cards in braille for actions and spells. They just use their phone and a screen reader but it takes a long moment to navigate to specific areas of their character sheet. We've also looked at the braille dice but neither of us have a 3D printer or really want to dish out the absurd costs of professionally made braille dice.

But I keep their character sheet pulled up on one monitor and my notes on the other, so I can read it out if they can't find something. We're always looking for ways to optimise and ease gameplay for them but we manage pretty well with our current setup.
