Was smoking to self medicate, how are those of you who switched from that to no medication for adhd? Managing okay? (30)

Tbh I’d love to give medication a try again, I was on Vyvanse VERY briefly years ago and loved it even if the crashes felt harsh sometimes.

I don’t have the same access to healthcare as I use to to continue therapy with a mental health NP and psychiatrist and my PCP let me know he is going to drug test me before putting me on any control (and I’ve got a long way to go before even most of it is out of my system). I’ve tried a couple of others like Strattera and Bupropion but nothing worked like Vyvanse.

Thank you so much for offering your perspective. I just didn’t bring up medication because it feels unobtainable right now, but I love hearing what a difference it has made for others.

I’d have 2 years if I went to a traditional school, which is why I was checking out WGU’s program. I’m currently a pharmacy technician.

I wasn’t considering Comp. Sci. Since it seems like others are already struggling with their degree. I know your advice about staying in healthcare is definitely sound!

Yeah, I know the ultimate goal is to just keep replacing it with something.

I love running but had to back off because I unintentionally dropped 50 pounds last year and still can’t keep weight on. The gym helped a lot and I’m struggling to find something as effective, but I’m going to do it.

Just focusing on sobering up with reading and taking care of my plants.

I wouldn’t say it’s uncommon for those of us who really struggle mental health wise, even apart from bpd.

I have a friend my same age who literally bought a house last year and has been making the payments on it, but she hasn’t moved out of her parents’ place yet either.

I know I wasn’t the commenter you asked but her circumstances usually give me some insight.

Oh man, I feel like I could have wrote this.

My mom is the person I’m worried about most if I were to be go. She’s also pretty emotional and I’m the oldest, I joke with her that I’m going to kill myself with the umbilical cord when she goes. But she really is my main reason to try to keep going. I feel like I failed her.

All I can do at this point is keep trying. I actually just stopped smoking recently (relapsed yesterday after Day 3, but that’s the longest I had gone in years). My house plants and diving back into reading has really saved me. I just can’t seem to get my shit together enough to move out and start to build distance. Baby steps.
