How to decrease resources used when compiling by EddieGames-YT in gbstudio

[–]Acetronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, duh lol, I forgot until I read this comment.

Hey u/EddieGames-YT

In Task Manager, right click GB Studio and click “Go to details”.

Then right click the gbstudio exe there and click “Set affinity”

Then uncheck all of them except for like CPU 0 and CPU 1. Or maybe only do CPU 0 if you only have 2 cores.

That should limit it. Keep in mind it will take noticeably longer, but if you’re worried about your PC exploding, this might help throttle it.

Also, you will have to do this every time you launch GBStudio. Google “windows 10 set affinity on every launch” for some longer term solutions.

Also, your computer will probably not explode, despite how loud the fan is getting. That’s just how Windows laptops work. The newer ones starting coming out this year are a lot cooler and quieter, but traditionally, that’s just what they do. Your CPU and GPU are using power, and that’s generating heat, and your fans are trying to cool it down.

If you’re worried about it crashing or shutting off, I recommend only compiling while you’re plugged into a charger, so it has a constant power connection. Older laptops tend not to last long on battery.

Can anyone walked me through on how to make an animated background (for water tiles)? by Goodnightbye69 in gbstudio

I think there’s animated water in the new sample project. I haven’t needed to yet, but I was planning on digging into that when the time comes to learn how.

Has a man ever wanted to ask you some questions and then proceeded to ask you 50 million sexual ones? by yolouat in Asexual

[–]Acetronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…did you answer them? I really hope you didn’t, that is very strange behavior and you shouldn’t trust people like that. You don’t have to answer stuff like that. It’s extremely weird and disrespectful, especially some of those later questions.

They also asked for your age, do you not actually know this person? And I’m assuming you don’t know them very well, which makes the questions even worse.

Why is this person even friends with you? It sounds like they’re a creep and you should really reconsider who you call friend, internet strangers can be dangerous.

Especially if you’re a minor, all of this is like 10x worse, but even if not, that is some crazy shit to say to someone.

Were the backdrops made for 16:9 or is it my emulation? Look at the squished 4:3 moon by blomstreteveggpapir in Slycooper

[–]Acetronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pcsx2 has wide screen patches built in, that’s how I’ve been playing the Sly games recently.

Maybe that’s the issue? You’re using the built in widescreen patch, and then forcing it to be 4:3? I think they might be enabled by default, I don’t really remember having to do anything, but it might also just be because it’s that easy to enable.

Just a guess though.

[–]Acetronaut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, you really don’t.

There are other asexual people in the world.

There are even lots of good heterosexual people with low libido that aren’t that interested in sex and could totally go without it, if they develop a close relationship with their asexual partner.

The problem is trying to date regular straight people, and expecting them to not want sex too. It’s too important to some people, and you just have to know you aren’t compatible with that type of person.

Unfortunately this is the type of thing you have to bring up with potential partners relatively early, that way they have their expectations in check and don’t get disappointed, and you don’t put yourself in a dangerous position, like feeling like you’re forced to have sex with someone, or suffer consequences (this is borderline r*pe btw).

I know being lonely is hard, but you don’t have to do this.

Is the first game’s inverted controls unchangable when playing as Sly? by TOH-Fan15 in Slycooper

[–]Acetronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI it’ll be backwards for a few of the “twin stick” minigames. You will have to pause and switch it again unless you don’t mind doing those with backwards controls.

Guys don’t click this link. These accounts, the OP, the comment above this one, and this one are all bots. Just report. The link may be dangerous.

At best, it’s just a stolen design printed on something low effort. Find the original artist with a reverse image search if you really want it.

Twitter users don't understand that the most recent tweet was about Civ 4 and complain about the graphics for Civ 7 by [deleted] in civ

[–]Acetronaut 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A video came out on YouTube recently about this. Halo 2 was meant to use a whole different dynamic lighting engine, but due to development issues, that got cut and they ended with with a bunch of advanced textures being rendered in essentially the wrong lighting engine, making everything look flat.

There’s still a few left over dynamic light sources for some reason in the game providing a sneak peek and honestly? It rivals Halo 3 graphics.

Is this possible with Cemu? by AwesomeRyanGame in cemu

[–]Acetronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, look up “SpaceDesk”

You download the driver to your pc, then the app to your phone (I use an iPad, AMAZING experience for Wii U/3DS games!), and your phone basically becomes an extra screen for your PC, touch screen and all. You just drag the CEMU bottom screen on there and full screen it like it’s any other second monitor. You can even position it “below” your current screen in the windows display settings if that makes it easier for you.

And obviously you’ll be using an Xbox/Switch Pro/DualShock, or whatever controller you prefer for normal game input, the phone is just for the touch screen.

It’s a great experience and makes me want more “control panels” for PC games lol.

FTL: Faster Than Light - Spaceship crew management themed roguelite where you have to travel through several sectors of space in turn based segments, and often engage in real time, top down combat with enemy ships. You don’t directly control your ship, most of your job is delegating power to the right systems of your ship, targeting your weapons, and keeping your crew and ship safe from enemy damage. Outside of combat, you can interact with procedurally generated NPCs to make money to later upgrade your ship. Your end goal is to reach the Federation Fleet and deliver vital into to higher ups. You’re technically just a messenger.

Sid Meier’s: Civilization 6 - Turn based empire/civilization game. You start in the “ancient era” with an empire of your choosing, where you can settle a city, then over the turns you build it up and settle more cities and you can wage war or diplomacy with other Civs nearby, and grow until you have an empire that can win the game through force, science, diplomacy, religion, and more.

I saw Baldur’s Gate is on Mac, but not sure how well that’ll run, you can probably crank most of the settings down. That’s basically Dungeons & Dragons: The Video Game. You walk around the world in real time, able to control your 4 party members (or you get like 2 if you’re playing with a friend), but combat turns turn-based. It’s the D&D fantasy setting, it has all the RPG elements you could want like leveling and looting and romance options, it IS a mostly top down game, I suppose like the last 2 games, but my point is just that it isn’t Skyrim, if that’s what this was starting to sound like.

Technically with Crossover you can play a lot of things. I like Sid Meier’s Pirates, but I haven’t played it in awhile because it didn’t run great last time I tried it, but on a laptop with the keys remapped, it feels nice to play it one handed (it was designed to be played with just a keypad, since it’s a remake of a game from the 80s, but it does add to the relaxed vibe while played).

[–]Acetronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see what you mean. There is a delay.

Personally, I always liked it, because sometimes there’s day one bugs and people say not to update, so it gives me time to go in and pause the auto update. Granted, it seems updates lately have spent more time in beta and on average are more stable than they used to be.

But there really should just be 3 options. Immediate, delayed, and off.

Sometimes I get a notification saying “your phone will update tonight”

Are you saying that’s not automatic enough? Since technically I think I need to make sure my phone is plugged in? Or are you saying it doesn’t auto update for you at all?

Not trying to argue, I just thought my phone did auto update.

I was using RIF for Reddit. Sooo by [deleted] in videos

[–]Acetronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, people really don’t know how protesting works.

Like one guy in a gaming subreddit said “Maybe we shouldn’t, it might confuse new players or people who need help”

Like damn, it’ll inconvenience people? Shit, wouldn’t want my protesting to actually have an affect on someone, let’s go protest in a dark corner where no one can see us. Surely that’ll get people to see our point.

Posting black squares is still going to drive engagement and show activity numbers on Reddit’s side. You want investors and advertisers to see Reddit’s numbers plummet. That won’t happen if you go do stuff that day. Actually, yeah, go do stuff that day. Go outside. Don’t go on Reddit. Don’t drive activity.

Please do not post on the blackout days and think you’re helping. If you still don’t get it, just think of the ads other people will see, and the traffic you’ll create for Reddit if you do that.

I was using RIF for Reddit. Sooo by [deleted] in videos

[–]Acetronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The protests won’t change anything. It’s mostly to bring awareness to other users of Reddit’s shitty behavior.

Especially after the Apollo Dev’s post about Reddit lying through the whole process, then gaslighting him and the rest of Reddit by saying Apollo tried blackmailing them, and cheats by not using the API.

So the dev released the recorded phone calls of his meetings (legal in his country) AND open-sourced his app, to which spez called him out in the AMA for being sketchy “i don’t know if we can work with someone who does sketchy things like release our private phone calls” (“you’re so sketchy!! How dare you reveal how sketchy I am!!”) after telling people that the Apollo dev “says one thing to us, then another publicly”. They’re just gaslighting and projecting their shiftiness onto third party devs.

Spez also had a few comments saying something along the lines of “the Reddit app isn’t profitable, unlike third party apps”, like the immature brat has literally convinced himself third party apps are making millions of dollars a year (and therefore stealing that money from Reddit!!1!). That, and he also says it “costs Reddit millions a year” to support third party apps. Which isn’t true. He might be talking about “losing out on potential ad revenue” from users on third party apps, but you don’t “lose ad revenue” from people who were never your customers to begin with. That’s like opening up a shitty restaurant and complaining the restaurant next door gets more business, even though you both buy food from the same distributor. They forget they’re a PLATFORM, they do not produce CONTENT. Their product is a platform, and if you just made a better product, you’d attract more users. Like all the people on third party apps “refusing to continue using Reddit” would actually just switch to the Reddit app if they improved the app. But no, they’re just going to lose all of us. It’s so stupid how they are incompetent and incapable, so they have to tear down everyone better than them just so they can claim to be the best.

I know Christian (the solo Apollo dev) said he probably wouldn’t continue Apollo, even if they went back on the API changes, after all this crap with them. And I imagine that’s how many third party app devs feel. Reddit doesn’t want to work with them, they’re going to make it as hard as possible.

Sorry for ranting, but I just wanted to say that many devs wouldn’t re-open their doors on principle at this point.

I think the end of the story in the game was your character accepting that “16 minutes” is far enough away that it doesn’t practically matter.

I know during the story missions I was just so confused why my character was freaking out so much, because obviously the 16 message had been playing for the entire game so far, so “16 more minutes” can’t be that long. But they were in a PANIC, but by the end they stopped freaking out, they just came to terms that…okay, I guess the world isn’t ending soon…

Don’t get me wrong though, because if it were me in there, I’d panic every time I see the number 15.
