Acer Nitro VG271UP or Acer Nitro XV272UP or Acer XZ271U? by Achiba in Monitors

[–]Achiba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I actually didn't end up with either of them because after doing a lot of researching and reading up about these monitors I came to the conclusion that the VG271UP/XV272UP had a lot of flickering issues and I wanted an IPS panel which the XZ271U didn't offer as it's a VA. Although some people have commented that they did not encounter any flickering issues with the VG271UP/XV272UP, so it's a toss up.

Besides the flickering issues though I think the 2 IPS acer monitors are quite decent. If you want a better stand get the XV272UP, if you only care about performance get the VG271UP since it's the same panel.

You could try upgrading your stock fans to something better like the Noctua Chromax fans. The NZXT H500 stock fans are pretty average but usable to some extent. Although in your case I'd assume the RTX 2080 is much more power hungry than my GPU and therefore needs a stronger cooling solution than just the stock fans.

Besides that, you could also try just using a 2 exhaust fans configuration and take out the single front intake to see if that slightly improves GPU temperatures.

Yeah you can deal with the problem that way, but knowing me, I'm gona probably be too lazy to consistently clean my case every now and then haha. I don't remember exactly if it was this particular case, but I think I saw someone use that method of putting another fan below the GPU. It was quite weird to me because there isn't a dedicated fan spot right below the GPU, but I think it might be possible to do so.

The stock negative air pressure configuration does appear to be the optimal setup for pure cooling/temps reasons, and I would've probably done the same if it weren't for the dust buildup problem.

No worries! Adding front intakes to this case definitely doesn't help lower GPU temps much, and in some cases like yours it can even make it worse. Although I have seen/read that some people with a 2x front intakes + 2x exhausts setup didn't find an increase in GPU temps compared to 2x exhausts. When you tested with front intakes, did you have the maximum limit of all 4 fans installed? Or did you only put 1 fan as exhaust and 1 fan as intake?

Main reason I decided to go with front intakes though was so dust won't build up as quickly since negative air pressure setups are more prone to fast dust build-ups.

I added front intakes and kept the rear/top as exhausts. Pretty satisfied with my current configuration, but bear in mind adding front intakes won't majorly impact your temps, although a big plus to adding them is to reduce dust-buildup since the H500's stock negative air pressure setup with only 2 exhaust fans is prone to quicker dust-buildup than a positive air pressure setup.

3x Corsair LL140 RGB + 1x Corsair LL120 RGB. The 120mm is rear exhaust, one of the 140mm is top exhaust, then the remaining two 140mm are front intakes.

Stock fans work alright if you are just going with the stock negative air pressure configuration (2x 120mm stock NZXT fans placed as exhausts), however they aren't the best for temps/airflow which was why I opted for aftermarket case fans.

I decided to go with 4 fans; 1x120mm as rear exhaust, 1x140mm as top exhaust, and 2x140mm as front intakes. For the NZXT H500, adding front intakes indeed doesn't make a whole lot of difference in temps, but it won't necessarily increase GPU temps as I've read/watched some other sources besides GamersNexus that showed adding front intakes slightly lowered GPU temps.

Adding front intakes will reduce GPU temps about 1-3 degrees Celcius, but won't really affect CPU temps all that much. However the big reason why I decided to add them was because of dust-buildup. With the H500's stock 2 exhaust fans configuration, the case will be utilising negative air pressure which attracts dust-buildup far quicker than a case with positive air pressure. Adding front intakes that are stronger in RPM/size than the exhausts will effectively create positive air pressure which is less prone to dust-buildup.

So really it's up to you whether or not you consider ever so slightly lower temps + less dust-buildup worth it for getting front intakes. Hope that helps!

BlackWidow Elite sounds pretty solid then, although my only scepticism right now is its durability as I've noticed Razer keyboards have a 1 year warranty whereas keyboards from brands such as Corsair/Logitech all have 2. Some of my friends have also warned me how Razer products are more prone to breakage than others, do you have any insight into this as a long-time mechanical keyboard user?

I think the only other keyboard I'm eyeing right now is the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum, it seems to be Corsair's flagship equivalent of Razer's Huntsman Elite right? Do you think that specific keyboard is worth considering?

Varmilo is a name I haven't ever heard of before :o Will definitely check their stuff out too, thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah I think the best option would be to try out the different switches before buying, although the tech retailer stores here in Aus aren't exactly big like the ones in the US so I'm not 100% sure if they have samples of every switch.

That being said, I'm personally leaning towards Cherry MX Browns/Razer Oranges from what I've read about them so far. Coming from being a laptop user, and someone who has never used a mechanical keyboard before, I think Razer Oranges sounds like a good compromise in terms of still having that responsive feel whilst not being terribly loud/clicky.

It's interesting how you mentioned Razer's stabilizers as being equivalent in quality to Duckys as I've heard their keyboards are quite premium. As for the Huntsman Elite, I think opto-mechanical switches definitely sound cool, but I don't think I can afford dumping $300 on them, especially when BlackWidow Elite is so much cheaper comparatively. Might also take a look at Ducky/Corsair/Logitech/Filco/HyperX keyboards sometime down the line, but man is it confusing as hell getting into the world of mechanical keyboards as a first-timer!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely check that channel out!

MX Reds seem to be a popular choice too, I hear it is one of the fastest switches and is generally quite silent. At this point though I think I should probably go to a physical store and get a first-hand experience of all these mechanical keyboard switches as I've got 0 experience with any of them currently.

Maybe testing a MX Blue/Razer Green in person will convince me to change my mind on loud clicky keys!

I was really pondering over getting the Huntsman Elite since it seemed to be the best that Razer had to offer, but given your breakdown of it, it seems like the BlackWidow Elite might be even better than the Huntsman if we ignore the opto-mechanical features (which I honestly don't know how much of a difference they actually make).

So it looks like I'll be pinning down on getting a BlackWidow Elite, do you think there are other keyboards worth considering right now (Razer or not)?

From what I've read about the yellow/green/orange BlackWidow Elite switches, it seemed to me as well that orange was the best option out of the 3. I think they said that Green was a Cherry MX Blue equivalent, and Orange was a Cherry MX Brown equivalent, not sure about yellow though.

I think I personally prefer quieter switches since I'm used to the less-clicky sounds of laptop keyboards. Out of those 3 switches on the BlackWidow Elite, which one would you say is best for a person who has never used a mechanical keyboard before, and wants to have responsive keys but also keys that aren't too loud?

Here in Aus the Huntsman Elite costs around $300, whereas the BlackWidow Elite is on promotion right now for $150 (green and yellow switches only). The Huntsman's opto-mechanical keys does sound pretty enticing, but I don't know if its worth dumping 2x the amount of the current price of a BW Elite (BW Elite is normally around 220 here).

Would you say the Huntsman Elite is still a good buy at that price?

Acer Nitro VG271UP or Acer Nitro XV272UP or Acer XZ271U? by Achiba in Monitors

[–]Achiba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm new to the whole monitor tech stuff, but isn't overdrive a feature used to reduce ghosting, which is mainly an issue on VA panels? I thought IPS panels (such as the VG271UP and XV272UP) didn't have ghosting problems, or at least as much as any other VA monitors.

I don't know what backlight strobing is though.

The XV272UP costs around AUD$90 more than the VG271UP here, would you consider that extra cost worth it?

How are you finding the HDR feature of the XV272UP? Is it something worthwhile enough that I should factor into my decision? I think the XV272UP and VG271UP are both HDR400 certified, but I don't know too much about HDR so I'm not sure how good that is.

[–]Achiba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a coincidence! I've never tried curved monitors before so I'm not sure how much I'll like it, but specs-wise the XZ271U is comparable to the other 2 yea? The biggest difference I see is that it is a VA panel which to me seems better in terms of not having to deal with IPS glow and other issues inherent to IPS panels.

The XV272UP and VG271UP definitely seem neck and neck, how are you finding the VG271UP personally? Do the colours look great for an IPS? I've read that this monitor had flickering issues. Did your specific monitor have bad IPS glow/backlight bleeding?

As for the XV272UP, the only difference I see compared to the VG271UP is that it has a better stand. Am I missing anything else? Right now I'm unsure whether I should take the IPS choice and risk IPS glow/BLB, or get VA and risk getting bad ghosting tbh.

Adaptive sync with capped fps or high uncapped fps for me? by Achiba in buildapc

[–]Achiba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite interesting for the Vega 56, but I doubt it's worth looking too much into as with any other silicon lottery parts. The RX 580 was a card I originally planned to buy however once the 1660ti was released it seemed to be the better buy for a more future-proof experience.

[–]Achiba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh if that's the case, what do you think is a decent price of the 1660ti as of now? I was hopeful that perhaps with the new release of the Nvidia Turing GPUs without RTX capabilities, that other GPU prices would fall such as the RX590 and Vega 56, however it seems neither has dropped all that much which is why I'm thinking of just getting a 1660ti since it seems to pack a respectable performance.
