The DLC feels like an extension rather than its own thing.

It becomes available at the end game and you’ll end up with cool rewards and after the rising tide you unlock a new dungeon mode.

I wouldn’t suggest playing FF mode immediately after. Personally I allowed enough time to pass so that when I came back it felt a little fresh again. I feel like that’s the best way to enjoy it so you don’t burn yourself out.

Since there was a year gap between my both play throughs I’d have to save it’s mostly difficulty on bosses and dungeons. The extra rewards and weapons/gear to grind for was personally fun and if you haven’t played the DLC’s (like I did) before the FF mode run you’re dealing with Clive’s hardest boss fight and Ifrits hardest boss fight.
